projectile vomiting, drowsiness, teething like rash, aversion to light, high temp, squealing if baby or toddler, the rash is usually the last symptom.. you can also pull he skin a bit to see if rash goes.

A little boy died of this when I was about 12.
I remember he was ill and dead 24 hours later, he was only 3!!!

It's easy to give in to that negative voice that chants "cant do it" BUT we lift each other up.

very true alot of symptoms can be mixed up with the flu ...stiff neck is another one as linda pointed out the rash isnt always visable ...i was quite aggitated that she dismissed it so easily then only mentioned the glass and rash not what or how you do it...and honestly who does carry a glass with them when they are out ....i think it will be something i will bring up next week ...hubby didnt know about the symptoms i assumed he did ...the guy that asked was no wiser either ...i wouldve thought that this would be a very important topic to cover ...she also messed up with some other conditions so much so i had to step in and say whilst **** has a point it is vital that we also remember the following points and then went on to a 10 min lesson on the subject matter which was important and couldnt've been left (did leave out the technical stuff but kept in the practical) ...i thought it was preferable to **** is talking utter bollox

I think the downloadable symptoms card would be a better option to carry around! from the website above

That's so sad linda, I know the child i was talking about was about 15 years ago, and thankfully ok, one of the lucky ones. she had febrile convulsionsm and was told it was normal for high temp, luckily she saw the telly and trusted her instincts.

totally agree but how many people carry it about with them ... i was just thinking about the course and hubby brought it up so i explained the symptoms to him i honestly thought he knew but now i know he didnt so i think i will need to bring it up ...if we are all to be trained as competant first aiders i think knowing the signs of something as serious as meningitus should atleast warrant a 10-15 min talk and question/answer session or am i being silly?
