I have a strange issue ...
When I try calling my ASDA Mobile PAYG (Vodafone network) phone - I get an unobtainable tone when using TALKTALK or a strange incomplete message ("There are in...") when using 18185.
If I overide my TALKTALK service with 1280 using BT's network there is no issue, I still have a BT landline Thank God!
Both ASDA Moble/Vodafone have checked my mobile service and its OK and I do get calls on my mobile no problem from elsewhere - it's just my home phone that cannot call my ASDA mobile.
Thinking of switching to Primus Saver - but it's worrying that 18185 also has an issue calling my mobile - are these specialist dirt cheap providers not all they're cracked to be?
Any clues out there as to what this issue could be - can't call TALKTALK today as it's Sunday and their support line is closed. Also tried calling Primus and their line is closed today!
To check further - I enabled an old Virgin Mobile PAYG Sim card (T-Mobile network) with £5 credit and found that that receives calls OK using the TALKTALK service on my home phone - so it's just my ASDA Mobile (Vodafone network) that has an issue.
Strange very strange.

Its possible that Asda( Voda) are using a new numbering range that has not been programmed into the Talk Talk System,so it does not recognize it.
Their have been a number of reports recently of 18185 misrouting calls to mobiles.0 -

However, there have been a number of reports in this forum in recent weeks/months of strange things happening when 18185 is used to call UK mobiles. One in particular has been repeated a number of times - calls apparently connecting correctly but resulting in what appears to be a recording* of a male voice saying, "Hang on" and the sound of a TV (on a news channel, possibly CNN) in the background. *The similarity of reports suggests the recording theory.
Yesterday, I had a similar occurrence - calling a UK mobile from my home phone using 18185, I started off getting a continental ringing tone which, after 3 or 4 rings was followed by what sounded like a male clearing his throat loudly and then a UK ringing tone - which wasn't answered.
I gave up and sent my call via Primus's Penny Mobile 2 for a flat rate 20p for up to 20 minutes and the call was successfully connected immediately.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0 -
Thanks for the replies - I've now ditched TalkTalk in favour of Primus.
TalkTalk Customer service maintain it's not their problem despite me telling them that prefixing 1280 always works ie BT Network.
TalkTalk = Cretins!
I consider myself a cretin for staying with TalkTalk for so long!0
