Just generally a bit fed up of money...well lack of it

I'm working overtime right now and its 11pm on a Saturday night and I feel like a bit of a whinge. I work extremely hard and at 23 feel like I wish money didnt exist. I want to do all these things, buy a decent car, buy a house with my partner, be able to go out once in a while, but I feel so limited by the way I have accepted I must live in order to shift my debt. I want to be 28 and debt free. That is my target. i feel like i will never ever be able to own a house. ever. thats a bit depressing.

I owe the following (ps if no one ever reads this thats fine its just cathartic for me lol)

N card = approx £5k ( i do know just cant be bothered to check exactly right at this moment)
BOS = £3.5k
One card = £2k
HSBC = £200
Ulster = £800

Student od = £2.75k
od = 3k
joint account = £700
student loan = approx £16k (def more thanks to the student loans company holding onto my payments until the annual pay date while they pocket the ineterest)

I dont think I have any more direct debts but just looking at that makes me want to cry. I cant see how to pay them all.

Tomorrow I am going to sit down and get all of my balances and priorotise. Ive got to the point where I can't tart my cards anymore, I just have too much credit available to me. i have practically nothing to show for my debt. holidays, clothes, food etc.

I rent with my partner and I know most of my money gets frittered away on food, drink and treats.

I dont go out very often and we arent massive connaseurs of takeaways etc but i am still chubby, in debt, my boyfriend doesnt have a job at the moment and i really dislike my job (which incidentally i always thought would be the best thing since sliced bread).

Just feel really miserable at the moment and live 350 miles away from my parents and brother and just wish I could go see them sometimes to vent some of this annoyance.:confused:

Sorry to bore everyone just needed to let it out. :(

    Hi there

    Couldn't drop by, eavesdrop, and naff off without saying hello:D

    My husband's on night shift so don't feel bad. You're not the only soul at their work.

    It must be hard having everything in front of you to be paid but hopefully you'll soon be able to see what a fortunate position you're in. Lots of people haven't quite got to your place of acceptance yet.

    As I said to my husband this afternoon when I realised we'd spent £120 in Asda buying not very much, wasting money is an art form:o :o We have to decide what we want. Do we want to keep the money or give it to them in exchange for something that tastes nice or feels nice.

    Good luck and I hope you cheer up soon

    Hi! Well I read your post and I feel the same sometimes. Just sit down like you plan and get yourself organised with incomings and outgoings. You'll get those debts cleared by the time you're 28! :D Think positively.

    Keep at it and it'll be worth it in the end. If you can be debt free by 28 that'll be excellent! Put plenty of time aside tomorrow to have a proper look at your debts and work out your priorities and I bet you will feel better for it. Many people don't realise they have a serious debt problem until 28+!!!!

    thanks guys, feel more motivated :) i always swore i wouldnt end up with debt like my parents and its really got to stop now before it gets out of hand. its taken a long time for me to get out of carrying credit cards with me, and i lowered the limit on one last week so i cant allow myself to spend anymore. oh well the only way is up as they say. might post my findings tomorrow to cheer myself up - thanks everyone, and yep im still working. oh well this overtime can only help matters i suppose :s

    If you are out of debt by 28 you will still have years and years to enjoy life, buy a car, a house, go on hols etc. Maybe keeping a diary might help? It seems to really motivate a lot of other people on this forum.

    At least youve taken a major step forward by getting all the debts listed, have you thought of putting on a soa (statement of affairs) and also keep a spending diary, youre be surprised where the £1,s slip though, magazine, here, choc bar here.

    if you go down the soa route, account in it, what your other half contibues to, say rent etc

    Hi louby_lou,

    You've taken a great step to accepting it all and wanting to get free from all your debts asap and coming on here. As mum2one suggests, why not put an SOA on here so we can perhaps help you with things you may well be overlooking yourself. Put everything down, including Birthdays, Christmas...the lot and let's see if we can help you to help yourself save money to pay it all back. Most of us here have very similar problems, so you're not alone, so please don't worry as that gets you nowhere! At troubled times take plenty of deep breaths and think of all the good things in your life, they are what count. In the not too distant future this will all be behind you and you'll be enjoying the future, and whichever way you look at it, it starts now with the realisation of it all! Debt-free comes a little later down the track. Concentrate on that SOA and we'll help you wherever possible.

    Why not concentrate on getting a job you're going to enjoy a lot more, also if your partner is able to soon get a job too then things will really start to look up. For now, please don't worry and come back to us soon.

    Hugs, Sue

    well ive got the final amounts here:

    Natwest: -£4746
    HBOS -£3544.20
    Student Account -£2750
    Current Account -£2278
    Halifax One -£1573.78
    Ulster -£800
    HSBC -£161
    Student Loan -£15808.84

    So in this world I owe a total of:

    (£15,892.98 credit cards, overdrafts etc) + (£15808.84 student loan) = £31,701.82

    OH MY GOD!

    I have never seen it like that before. This makes me more determined than ever to change matters!

    I'm not going to depress myself with considering the student loan, which I am paying back through my wages anyway so I will focus on my "other" debt -

    -£15,892.98

    how can I have let things get out of hand like this!?

    Oh well its off to the office I go - to take pictures for eBay! The Pizza Hut delivery for dinner is cancelled and its whatevers in the cupboards I think! I always come over all MSE at the weekends lol!

    Can you not delay paying back your student loan so you can focus more on the other debts as don't they have lower interest rates than the other things?

    I've been having a look at the old style threads for tips for cooking etc, determined to make some cheaper meal as before I joined this site I was spending tons on pre-packed food, didn't realise quite how much. I have got myself a slow cooker which I'm going to use to make lots of nice casseroles, curries etc, hopefully with leftovers and so I can make enough to pot some up either to freeze or to take into work for lunch the next day :)

    Do you have any chance of being able to swop any of the card balances to 0% deals?

    How's your SOA looking? Just wondered if you might be able to negotiate lower payments/freezing interest if you're struggling a bit

    I think realising your situation now is fab, I'm almost 28 and have a house etc and managed to run up a load of debt, I wish I'd got wiser with money when I was in my early 20s, it would've saved a lot of hassle x x
    Money doesn't make you happy so I'm skint but cheerful :beer:
