Lille France

I'm thinking of taking my bf there for 3 nights for his 21st birthday departing 16th july and returning on the 19th leaving from London(eurostar).Staying in a holiday inn 3 star bed and breakfast costing £105pp.

Anyone been to Lille?Any reccomended places to visit? The nightlife good?

Easy tube & transport system - very easy to get around. Food & flea market good, have not tried the conventional nightlife there, so can't comment.

There's a Carrefour hypermarket about 3 mins from the station. We always take an empty wheely suitcase with us so we can stock up on wine, cheese etc etc on the way home!

    A lovely place to visit.

Cannot comment on the nightlife but agree its a very nice place to visit, great supermarket and shopping area. Take a day trip to Brussells on the train (remember to take your passport/id).Check out the "specials" at the station.I got a companion travels for free, cannot remember how much but do remember it seemed very reasonable at the time.

I would recommend it - easy to get around and there are some good bars/restaurants where you can get decent food that does not cost the earth - there is quite a flemish influence there so you will get some decent beer if you like beer!!

went about 10 years ago mind you it had 3 clubs that were recommended to me. we went to one which was ok. so if you are looking to go clubbing why not too? the thing in france is that you go to a club quite late about 11/12 pm and then come out at 3/4 pm and then find a bakery or tap on their door and get a nice freshly made pain au chocolat this is what the french do.
apart from that it is good for shopping. it is very studenty so probably also good for trying out all of those lovely flemish/french beers!
i remember also going to local market on a sunday too. eurostar used to have a bit about events and things to do on their website.
