Are surveys backlogged ?

Hi - I am in a chain (oh the joy!!) and our buyers buyer appears to be taking a very long time to get the survey done.
He *says* he had the mortgage approved in principle on 22 April and is waiting for the survey but they are very behind with surveys.
Every week he says it will be this week, definately tomorrow, within the next 48 hours e.t.c.
Is he messing or are surveys really taking this long ?
I would have thought in a market like this surveyers would be sitting around twiddling their thumbs waiting for a call to go and do whatever it is they do ?

It's not paranoia if they really are after you.

I think that you are right to be suspicious. The heat is right out of the market, and like you, I think surveyors will be twiddling their thumbs. Methinks he is trying to string this out in order to egt some more market data in place to gazunder you. Speak to your estate agent. You need to put a deadline in place and go back to market pretty sharpish, if there is no action. After the uprising of the 17th June The Secretary of the Writers Union
Had leaflets distributed in the Stalinallee Stating that the people
Had forfeited the confidence of the government And could win it back only

To dissolve the people

Surveyors are indeed scratching around, but lenders are swamped, I had an AIP on 7th march, but didnt receive the formal offer until 9th May, but the surveyor was round within the week[strike]Debt @ LBM 04/07 £14,804[/strike]01/08 [strike]£10,472[/strike]now debt free:j
Target: Stay debt free0 -
When I was remortgaging 2 weeks ago the surveyor phoned within 4 hours of me leaving Nationwide and completed the survey within 1 week. In fact whole morgage including additional borrowing signed sealed and sorted within 3 weeks!!!
So yes I think he's stringing you along, give him a deadline and get it back on the market.0 -
It depends - without knowing what lender they are using its impossible to say.0

Hi - I think it depends on lender. When we remortgaged, had the AIP on the 10th March, but no survey till the end of April.0 -
Too many assumptions.
As the above, set a deadline.Motto: 'If you don't ask, you don't get!!'

Who's their mortgage with. Abbey have been overwhelmed and the valuations are taking 4-6 weeks at the moment. I'd be careful about annoying any buyer right now.
Cheers, Rob0 -
Like a lot of others, I have just had a valuation arranged and carried out very promptly, so I would be suspicious.0

I'm remortagaging a commercial property and the survey was done the same day. The survey company called up and said that the surveyor was a few streets away. And I hadn't even paid the survey company.
I'm guessing maybe that the buyer doesn't have the money to pay for a survey and is putting it off.The man without a signature.0 -
I think it depends on the lender and the area with regards to the length of time a survey takes. My mortgage application to the survey being done (with abbey) took one week, but other posters are reporting delays in surveys being done on behalf of the abbey. PS i think, for what its worth, that it all does sound suspicious as the purchaser of your house would have no input or an indication of dates of a survey (unless they are directly organising their own survey) as it would generally be arranged by the lender, the surveying company and your estate agent. So for him to promise when it will be carried out sounds a little odd.0
