My son has just tried upgraded his buying account to a selling account and was unable to as he has no landline at uni and they refused to accept a mobile to make the security call. In the end he had to wait to come home, use the main landline number to register with and then do the security bit.

When he did it though it was automated anyway, so I could easily have done it for him and just phoned him with the log in codes.

So you could just use a phone box then?

My sister has just started selling on ebay, she has had a buying account for a while. When she came to sell there were all sorts of hoops to run through including having to give a landline number.

It's better really, as it's always been painfully easy for scammers (and those unfairly booted off ebay) to just start new accounts...

They phone you back straight away don't they? So you'd have to be able to go online from your laptop in the phone box to do that.

Yes it's like a dalek voice. You input the details at the PC and as soon as you click 'phone now' the phone rings and asks you to confirm that you are xxx, and then to confirm something else (can't remember what) and then reads out a code that you put into the pC to open your account to selling.

You could use a phone box yes provided you have a wireless laptop with you leeching someone elses broadband! Easily done though!

I should'ave provided weight evidence but by this stage the claim was closed in the sellers favour

If the claim went to item not as described could you have filed for a refund on return of the item - and sent them back an empty envelope by SD!

i wish people would tell us the ebay names of these scammers so we can look out for them and block them? I thought we were doing all this to help each other?
