who do i tell about change of circumstances?

hiya people
Right up until now i have been claiming income support and housing benefit as i have a 16 month old child and had to give up work due to very bad pnd and so since october have been claiming these as a single mum.I do have a boyfriend but he wasnt fianacially ready to move in with us and so he hasnt been providing financially or living with me.We will be in a position next month for him to move in due to him getting a better paid job but we have decided today that from monday i will declare myself as no longer single in the councils eyes as we have been confronted by a nosy neighbour about another silly problem and was just her been nosy as i live in an apartment block and my bf does help alot with our daughter so we dont want her saying he has been living with me and then me getting in trouble for benefit fraud for something i havent even done as we feel she may do something like this,i am also 5 months pregnant and this is why he has gone for promotion etc so he would have been moving in anyways.
so anyways do i jsut ring up and tell them or do i have to do something and will they want proof that he hasnt been living here or what??
sorry this is all confusing,i am so careful so dont want to risk been reported because of nosy people when we havent done anything wrong and i dont want to take money that i now feel not entitled to.But we do feel that the time has come for him to move in and take over the rent.its also a private rental, not council house
Will they inform income support or will i need to tell them aswell??
thanks people,lol,my head hurts now
xx

  • i wouldnt give a second thougt to what a nosey neighbour might or might not do,as long as you have nothing to hide you have nothing to fear.
When your partner moves in then you need to contact I/S,and if you get ctc them as well,as far as housing and c/tax goes speak to them and see if your joint arrangement might still entitle you to some benefits, that would depend on your joint incomes of course

I agree with Woodbine. You need to tell everyone ASAP of your change in circumstances. Your council tax & housing benefit will be suspended until they look into it. You need to write a statement (ask the council for help with it) telling them that your boyfriend has moved in. They will need to know all his income/savings etc details. Depending on what he earns, you may still get some help.

Don't forget that now you're a couple, he will be able to claim Child Tax Credits as well.

You will need to tell IS asap, but also advise tax credits, you may get extra help with working tax credits? but they will need to re assess everything, still worth tryng to get rebate from HB. good luck with new baby and everything :)
Thanks to all who post comps :T

thankyou everyone, you are right that i shouldnt be bothered about a nosy neighbour havent done anything wrong but feel like whilst she is bothering me about stupid things that he might aswell move in so atleast he can have a word with her saying well you dont live here if that makes sense as ive not had an easy pregnancy and my midwife is going crackers at me been stressed over silly things!!
i will inform all the people asap to advise them that he will be moving in and so they can sort out what they need to.thanks for reminding me about tax credits,i forgot about them.
    Thankyou again everyone
