first direct £30 off?

Back in april I was looking around for car insurance,so I noticed that first direct were offering to beat my renewal quote from the post office by £30 so I checked with the post office and they quoted £128. I then went to first direct and they quoted me £98, beating the post office by the £30 that they promised.
A few hours later the post office rang me to say that they would give me a new quote if I wanted, plus a fifty pound postal order, they quoted a bit more this time £148 but with the fifty pounds postal order it made it the same as first direct, after thinking about it I decided to go with first direct.
A few weeks later the fun started, first direct wrote to me to ask where the no claims discount proof was as well as proof of price from my previous insurer(never had to do this myself in 20 years) another letter followed threatening to cancel the policy,so I rang them to explain that I was waiting for the post office to send the relevant information.
The person that I spoke to said that she may be able to contact my previous insurer to get the details,- 10 minutes passed and she rang back and said that the no claims discount had been confirmed, but I had an extra £20 to pay because my renewal premium was £148 and not £128 as I had told them, I explained that there were 2 quotes, and in any case the £148 quote had a £50 postal order as well, in the end I just gave up and paid the extra £20, but I most certainly will not use first direct again.
