Today I had my Hotpoint washing machine and Fridge Freezer delivered. Before they arrived I got a call from the delivery guy to say he would be late, and that there was a problem, the front of the Freezer Door was dented.
He got hotpoint to call me and they offered me either a small discount, or they would come and replace the door for me but it would be nearly 2 weeks. As this is a £400 appliance bought mainly for cosmetic reasons, I chose the door option, but I said, they had severly inconvienenced me, (I work full time, and am a single parent, weekends are the only time i get to spend with my son, and I didnt want to spend another saturday indoors) and as I was still to buy yet another hotpoint appliance, (a £450 cooker) I said I would also want a voucher as a gesture of goodwill of my next appliance. She blatenly said NO.
Anyway, the guys arrived with my goods, they pulled out my washing machine and ripped a massive hole in the lino. right in the middle of the floor. He said currys would come out and glue it back.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!???????????? IMPOSSIBLE!!!!!!!
Next they couldnt even install the washing machine correctly, so i told them to leave it, and did it myself.
After they left I went to currys, to see what could be done, and my salesman said I should right it all down to head office, and they might compensate me. He also said that if i had no luck, he would personally give me 8% of the cooker i wanted when i next came in.
Anyway, I just arrived home, tidied up all the mess and have now noticed another bloody dent, in the fridge door this time. Also the seal at the top of the fridge door, looks a bit dodgy.
So basically what I am asking is, if this was your situation what would you do??
Obviously I need another new door, or whole new appliance, but as far as being compenstated for my floor, and all my troubles is concerned what should I expect do you think? who should i turn to? hotpoint or currys.... Any advise would be appreciated.
Thanks guys

Your contract is with currys, so you need to deal with them.
Your options are
reject the goods and write a letter to head office with photos of damage and quotes for new lino for your kitchen. Send recorded delivery.
Ask for a replacement and as above with the letter.
Ask for another door and above with letter.(I wouldn't bother after the way you have been treated).
I would ask for your money back and compensation for your damaged floor.0 -
I won't comment on the damage to fridge etc but I will say, you cannot glue back a vinyl floor and make it look right. You deserve and should receive a whole new piece of vinyl for your floor. If it's torn, it will have been stretched in the process and will never be the same again. The delivey people must have encountered vinyl before and it is has be treated carefully, for this exact reason, it tears easily. Been there, done that and worn the T shirt0

Don't bore them with the single parent sob story, but just ask for a new door and an entire new floor for your room."Love you Dave Brooker! x"

Thankyou. Yes that information was for the board not hotpoint. I was trying to give an idea of why i felt it was an inconvienience.
Ok, I am going to try aand write up a draft letter to head office currys. These posts have been really insightful thank you.
Will be back later ....
Back sooner than I thought. I meant to ask, does anyone know if the rubber seal on the hotpoint washing machines is supposed to be all bent and out of shape as oppose to smooth all the way round the door entrance? Maybe its supposed to be crinkly but im just paranoid now.0 -
My seal on the washer machine is smooth and round the door. I can't imagine it is suppose to be crinkly, would defeat the object of being a seal I would imagine.0

I think afer the experience you've had you'll never be happy with the goods, as you say maybe paranoid
Once a company has treated you badly it's best to walk away. Reject the goods, get your floor sorted out and shop else where.0 -
its inportant that you take photos of the damage and send them
get a digital camara from someone and say that you will email them or include them with your letter on a cd and send it by recorded delivery so that they can dispute that you never sent them0 -
You must get phto proof of this else it is your word against theirs, keep a copy of everything.0
