Incapacity benefit and medical?

Hi everybody,

Just going through the mill again for the incapacity benefit review. I have sent in ib50 and waiting for word back as to, if I have to go for a medical or not. On my last occassion 5 years ago I didn't have to go for a medical but I feel that they may call me this time.

I have spent many hours filling in the ib50 form and also enclosed the med4 that they asked for. As far as giving them all the info that they need I feel I couldn't have done any more.

I was just wondering if and how they decide whether a person is called for a medical or not? Is it just a matter or pot luck on some usually young person having a quick look at my ib50 form and saying to themselves I think I need to send this person to our doctor, or is it a more rigorous process? My gp has given all the things that I suffer from on the form and also signed it that I need to stay off work for 13 weeks, which he says is the usual thing that he does.

thanks

Once they have received your IB50 they will look to see if they can make a decision based on that. If they cannot they may ask your Doctor for further information (they may have done this before they sent you the IB50) and they may refer your case to Medical Services for further advice or to decide if you should have a medical or not. As this was not your original claim they should not have asked for a Med4 this time, but it seems it happens sometimes.
