Clinique or Liz Earle?

Hi folks.

Just looking for a bit of advice. I currently use clinque stuff and really like it, but have heard a lot recently about it not being highly recommended by professionals (especially the clarifying lotion). So I was thinking of switching to Liz Earle as I've heard good things about it.

I was wondering if anyone could give me advice about how the two compare on price, quality, freebies (i.e. with clinique you can often pick up good freebies), how long it takes in the morning/evening, etc?

Thanks.

Have you looked at the Liz Earle website - there's lots of info and a very good FAQ. I cant recommend anything specific as I dont know you skin type but if you ring up the girls on the phone are very knowledgeable
    http://uk.lizearle.com

They do sample packs and you could try their essentials kit which contains
    • Cleanse & Polish Hot Cloth Cleanser 30ml
    • Instant Boost Skin Tonic 50ml Bottle
    • Skin Repair Dry/Sensitive 15ml
    • Skin Repair Normal/Combination 15ml
    • 1 Pure Muslin Cloth
This will provide a kit to cleanse, tone and moisturise. They usually send you a sample of something if you order anything.

    Hi Lolly.

I did look on their website but it came up with a load of recommendations for my skin type and I got a bit overwhelmed/confused  . Was thinking of getting one of the essentials kits but the muslins bit looks a bit faffy to me - if you're meant to wash them every 2nd day like it says, do you need loads, like if you're going on holiday or having a bad laundry week?!

My beauty therapist doesn't rate it at all - she told me beauticians don't rate it and the clarifying lotion is akin to paint stripper. (But then her salon sells dermalogica, which is also what she recommends!). But I've heard that from a few folks on here too.

Muslin cloths - think flannels thats all. Plus the muslin does act as an exfoliant. I think you get two clothes in a pack - plenty to start you off on. I find a rinse out in very hot water and hung to dry is usually enough to keep a cloth fresh enough to use all week. Then in the machine they go. If make up doesnt wash out of them I boil them up now and then in a saucepan.

Liz Earle can be used by all skin types which is why you got so many recommendations. Can I suggest you order a kit of QVC to get started? That way if you don't like it or it doesn't suit, all you lose is the posting costs back as they give a full refund within 30 days for any reason

I can't recommend Liz Earle highly enough - and I am a product junkie! The products are beautiful and they work really well, and I think are exceptional value for money. The customer service is second to none - they usually manage to deliver from Isle of Wight to me in Aberdeen within a day. And they always include freebies with every order - good freebies as well. My fave products are the hot cloth cleanser, and the daily skin repair moisturiser, the gentle face exfoliator and the brightening treatment mask. The hot cloth can be a faff with the muslin cloths but guess it depends how you normally cleanse your skin. I used to use a regular cleanser and remove with cotton wool pads - if that's the case then it's not that different. I really think it's a superior cleanser. If you were travelling you could take a bunch of the cloths, but I also use face flannels and little flannel resuseable sponges to take it off - don't think it has to be a muslin cloth.

I think Clinique products can be very harsh - personally I would never use toner with alcohol in it.

I like both brands but went back to Clinique...simply because I think the Liz Earle products are a bit too gentle!! I have quite oily skin. However while I like the clinique clarifying lotion because it makes my skin feel very clean, I do also think it may be dehydrating my skin and making my fine lines look worse. Catch 22! The Liz Earle products are a pleasure to use and less expensive, but probably best for more normal/dry skin - that's just my experience. I do still buy Eyebright eye lotion and the hydrating mask from Liz Earle - fabulous. As said by other posters, their customer service is second to none. :T

I have continued to use the Liz Earle muslins with clinique products though as they are great and all you need to do is rinse them out, hang over the radiator and they dry quickly.

Having said all that I am now looking to "downgrade" to a less expensive brand...

i use clinique's sunscreen (city block spf 40) but nothing else from that brand. liz earle is brill and not at all faffy (although I don't wash the muslin cloths every two days, more like once every 3 weeks - i just stick it on the hot radiator and figure it kills the germs)
Not buying clothes for a year - it's liberating!

You know you have hit the nail on the head. If you think the product is drying your skin then it is and your skins response is to produce more oil - Catch 22

Im not saying my oil slick of a t zone has dried completely but it is only a t zone now and slowly thats improving with foundation lasting the day. I use as gentle a product as possible - mostly Liz Earle, some Tescos BNatural cleanser and now the oil cleanse method. I no longer use anything on my face that has alcohol as an ingredient
