Tesco Insurance- Save 25% or 15% on renewal

It really p*sses me off when companies like Tesco draw you in with a great rate then shovel up your premuimns once you are with them whilst offering 25% off to new cutomers - same cover a a quarter less - why cant they give existing customers a great rate intead of telling them they are getting a generous 10% renewal discount whilst carging new customers 15% for identical cover ... anyway this is how to secure your rightfullly discounted price by doing the same as I did:

My first years renewal is due so I go to Tesco online and get a quote for a brand new policy to compare .i.e. I am going to cancel my 1 year policy on its due for renewal date and get a new inurance policy online instead, to start from the expiry date of the old policy to ensure I am covered at all times.

Am I a new customer? depends how you look at it , if I cancel my policy before expiry say by 1 day and then return to tesco inurance after cancellation surely I am a new customer, albeit again

This saved me about £40 for IDENTICAL cover...
or in my case I swopped to pay monthly and the difference covers their yearly interest charges, either way its £40 in the sky rocket to me.

Come on Tesco, you can do better than this, this situation is a pile of old pants, my the insurer of my other house (Halifax) give a no claims bonus which enures I dont have to p*ss about cancelling my policy an an annual basis to get the best price.

I am thinkling about moving it next year to a compnay that places a higher value on its renewal business and doesnt see it as a way of milking a cash cow.

Irony is that Halifax Insurance = BOS and Tesco Insurance = BOS (i think)
Therfore current situation = STOOOPID

When I was online it asked for a PROMO DISCOUNT CODE, anyone got one of these I can use to reduce cost further? also I asked to redeem my clubcard vouchers so thats another £40 I aint gotta find.

If I get a PROMO code I will cancel this request and get a new (final) quote.

Anyway I hope this helps someone and put £40 notes in their sky rocket too!

As a final note the call centre bods know about it, the woman I spoke to even said make sure you enter (gave me the date) to make sure it continues uninterupted - come on Tesco you are making an !!!!!! out of yourselves and the customer - lets have some straight forward value - upfront

  • Tesco is crap, specially when you are wondering if it is worth to make a claim... i asked them how much my renewal will be with them if I claim and how much it will be if I dont... they came up with the same price as my first year (I had the accident right before getting a YNC) if I was claiming which I thought will be ok... In the end I still had to claim as it was still the cheapest option. it came out a week later that the quote they gave inflated by 200 pounds!!! When I asked them about the quote I had a week ago they of course said they did not have any trace of it, how convenient! I tried to haggle with them and I finally left them for The AA.

    They are stupid. Point.
