thanks for that, have emailed my new line manager to ask if it has been done yet, will let you know the outcome
  • Usually a lurker here but I have some knowledge in this area although not Yorkshire Bank's specific policies.

I work for an FSA regulated company and the credit checks they run on their staff (including advisors) are the basic ones - to look for CCJ's and bankruptcies. You are normally asked questions on the application form (or other forms) about your credit history, normal questions are "do you have any CCJs/bankruptcies/IVA's" and then the credit check will seek to validate your response by looking at whether or not you have any of these - thereby not just looking at your financial stability as such but your honesty and integrity as well (i.e. not lying about whether or not you have CCJ's for instance). So I would say it's likely, although this is only my thoughts, that if an application form only asks if you have any public information lodged against your name i.e. CCJs/bankruptcies/IVA's etc then they are only going to be doing a basic search.

Rainbow trout is right - a quick call to the HR department should give you the answers you need. A fuller search will leave a footprint on your credit report whereas the search that looks just for CCJs and bankruptcies will only be visible to you so it's actually in your interest to find out as this could affect your credit score if this is one of a number of searches that is done so if you're worried that HR might be suspicious that you want to know this could be the reason you use for asking them?

    Hope that's some help.

Thanks for that, i does say their search wont be visible to anyone else. However it does say something to do with credit referencing possibly credit score which is what worries me! However the appliation did only mention questions about CCJ's bankruptcies and defaults.

Just relax, there is nothing you can do about it now. You will be fine. I have known advisers get jobs with defaults and ccjs.

Now if you were becoming a financial adviser, that may be a different story but for a mortgage adviser, if you answer honestly, you pass.

As long as you can account for your last 10 yrs work history, provide satisfactory references, there should be no issues. Now stop worrying!!

    Hi there,

Just wanted to say I was credit checked for a regulated advisory role this week - was panicking too and told my compliance officer why.....

He said they were basically looking for defaults and "nasty stuff", and actually printed out a copy of what he did so that I could see for myself and stop worrying.

It really is the simplest check, and they are really only looking for court intervention - eg CCJs and Bankruptcy.

    Panic not.......
