Mine have normal plates and I have thick, wavy, shoulder length hair and I love my GHD's. But having said that I've never used the wider plate ones so couldn't comment.

  • I have long curly thick hair and the best thing I have ever used is the wide plated Wet2Straight straighteners. They are pretty reasonably priced. It used to take me an hour and a half to blow dry and straighten my hair (tep its THAT thick and curly) and now I dont even think it takes me 45 minutes.

wide plates are better for thick hair, and you can also use them for curling - just use the same technique.

i sold my wide plate GHD recently though, because i have long fine hair, and all it needs is a quick run through with the smaller plates. The size of the plates makes no difference to my type of hair..

But someone else may just adore the look :D

I have super thick wavy hair that I thought I would forever have to keep short to keep the kinks at bay, Due to illness I hadnt been to the hairdressers, hair started to grow and of course curl and kink so got a pair of babyliss and well no way would I pay the 100 quid or whatever for GHD, The babyliss straighten my hair no probs and Im so cack handed I cant even blow dry properly.

I have long hair for the first time since my teens :D

    Hi ,
Both my daughter and i got some GHD wide plate straighteners . .... and they are great.
We both have long wavy / frizzy hair ... and use to have to wash and dry our hair every morning ( not because it needed washing ) but we both woke up with it standing on end !!
    Not any more though ....
It takes my daughter about half an hour to straighten hers .... having said this because she straightens it all " in sections " and this seems to last a 3 or 4 days ....
I only take 5 mins to do mine ..... but i do have to straighten it every morning ...... and even though i colour my hair , and don't use any of the " defence heat sprays" ..... you would think that it would be like straw .... but it's not for some reason and everyone comments on the lovely condition ....
As i said the wide plates are great .....

    terri xx

The size of the curls depends on the speed with which you pull the GHD through your hair, not the size of the plates. So you can get any size curls with these straighteners..

And if you have long hair, huge curls are very 'beach sexy'.. my fave look!

Really? How is that? Most of my friends who have used mine have stated either "I didn't know these existed" or "I couldn't afford these ones but wanted them". So not entirely sure why it is very unlikely.

The wide salon version are exactly the same price as the standard size on the ghd website.

i don't have ghd ones (i stood on my original ghds and killed them last year.... there was much swearing!), so i replaced them with 'she' wide plated ones as i didn't have enough money to get ghds again. i find the wider plates great - still takes at least 20 mins to straighted all my hair, but it is seriously frizzy. then i only really need to re-do the front bits in the morning where kinks mysteriously appear overnight!
