Genes Reunited hidden charges

Options
Just started to research family history and paid to join Genes Reunited. The first thing I wanted to look at was the 1901 census and they wanted an extra £5 to look. What robbers! I have asked for a refund. Anyone found good sites to help with tracing family history etc?

genesreunited is very useful for tracing distant relatives as you it checks your tree against other entries with the same details , I live in hope that someone will someday trace down to a dead end on my tree and we will link up !!

Thanks Broantoa for a really useful site, will persue. Do you know of any sites with information on people who were in the first world war and served as auxilliaries? My Grandfather got several campain medals but is not listed in army records. He was an Ambulance Officer with Lysaght Division, but I cannot find any information. Thanks again.

Lysaght Division seems to imply workers at the John Lysaght Factory in Bristol ??

In 1920, the UK company was merged into steel giant GKN , Bristol archives may hold some information

i pay £9 something a month to ancestry.com and its fabulous, access to records, census records, birth marriage and death records (note not all), old phone book records (found my dad at our old address lol). and you can build a tree on it as well, i believe you can save your GR tree and have it emailed to yourself as a 'gedcom' file which you can then uload to ancestry.

for £9 a month it really is worth it imho.

same here but everyone who has got links to my tree have all drawn a blank at the very same person which makes us believe that john wasnt the correct christian name and the place of birth/residence we all have is wrong also.

so annoying. weve all been stuck on this person in 1736 for a few years now and no one can find a breakthrough.

Was he old enough to enlist? If not he may of used a fake name which is why you can't find him
