Gutted, Grumpy and need an ear

I'm annoyed and want to vent and I know you good, caring, understanding people are willing to listen to my little winge.

Since 2007 I have been with payplan, surprisingly once payplan sent the creditors the letters they all agreed, and all but one stopped the interest and charges. I haven’t had a call from any creditor since and all as been fine.

My payments to payplan have increased as I got a better job and slowly one by one the creditors are getting reduced. Meaning that each time a creditor is fully paid off there is more money to share between the rest of them.

Anyway last night at 21.49!!!! I got a call from some idiot at Lloyds TSB (I hear a big sigh from all of you that are having problems with them)

He told me that since I am paying over the minimum payment the payplan has to stop and from Monday they are putting back all the interest and charges.

I'm gutted! No really, I didn’t say that heartfelt enough…I'm seriously GUTTED

This will mean its going to take longer for my debt to clear :( and the idiot wouldn’t listen to a word of it.

I know there is not much I can do (big sigh) but for once I was really starting to see light at the end of the tunnel…

Thanks for listening..
In Jan 2007 I had a debt of £27,896.00
In October 2011 I paid it off and owned £0.00 - Kinda proud of this!:T

    Hi
Some of the creditors are a law unto themselves, send them the letter below and see what happens, also, it''s worth reminding them they are in breach of the OFT guidelines re calling you after a certain time, OFT guidelines state, creditors / DCA's are not allowed to phone you before 8-00am or after 9-00pm, in view of them calling you at that time, write requesting information on their official complaints procedure.

    Your address
    Date

    Creditor's address

    Dear Sir/Madam
    Acc/Ref No XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
Thank you for your letter / telephone call of XX−XX−2008 concerning the above account. We are sorry that you feel unable to suspend interest charges on the above account.
The majority of our other creditors have agreed to the offer of payment and agreed to suspend any interest charges still accruing. They have accepted that to continue to charge interest would not assist us in our present financial difficulties, and can only serve to increase our total debt.
As you are aware, we have already paid considerable sums in interest to our account. If interest charges continue, the monthly instalments we are paying will not even cover that interest. Also the co−operation of our other creditors who have agreed to freeze interest already would be put at risk.
We would therefore be grateful if you would reconsider your decision not to freeze the interest. This would mean that the monthly payments we make would actually reduce the balance outstanding to your company.
We look forward to hearing from you as soon as possible.
    Yours faithfully

Just curious, why are you discusing it on the phone?

Most of the people who call are calling from a call centre, they are under stick targets to obtain as much as they can, they're very unlikely to agree to anything we request.

Next time you receive a call, just hang up, it winds them up much more, they can't manipulate you then.

If you do write regarding them calling you, insist they remove your contact details from their databases, and request confirmation this has been done.

This has 2 advantages, it stops your original creditor calling you, and if the debt is ever sold on, the DCA cannot call you because they have no contact details.

Keep on top of it, make sure you have confirmation your contact details are removed from your records, oh, and send your letters by recorded delivery.

Payplan are right, if you are now paying the minimum then there's nothing they can do as you're now back under your creditor's contract. So they are allowed to stick their interest/charges back on as you agreed to them.

It's why I'm always skeptical of increasing DMP payments too much.
