Depends if you want busy, quiet, traditional or cosmopolitan. Also, are you referring to the Algarve?

If yes, Alburfeira is almost like being in the UK with English bars all over the place & is very busy. For a more unspoilt choice look at the Eastern Algarve. Tavira is very traditional & fairly quiet, you have to get a boat out to the beach area. Further down you have Cabanas which has the beach but not the charm of Tavira.

Try these out for some insight into areas

Basically, west has pretty coves & the east has miles of flat sand.

Would recommend you hire a car whilst there too.

The old part of Albufeira is quite nice, not as many English bars.

Are you looking for self catered accommodation or hotel?

We went to Alvor last July for a surprise short break (OH's 40th B/D).

The old village is a fishing village and is full of excellent fish restaurants and small bars.

One of the best beaches in Portugal apparently.

If you want to sample some of the noisy resorts, they are only a few miles away.

We stayed at the 5 Star Pestana Alvor Praia - not exactly money saving, but it was a special occasion and I can thoroughly recommend that hotel if you want to splash out.

Have a look at the website and you might just agree!!
