Car insurance cover when not on driveway

What happens if you stay overnight somewhere and something happens to your car do most insurance policys cover for that? They ask when you apply for insurance where the car is kept, we put on the drive but its often somewhere else too in the day and overnight so I was a bit concerned if it would cause problems if anything happened
Thanx

Well, I would think "on the street or on the drive" would only apply if something happened to the car whilst it was at your house. If your car was stolen from outside your house and it was on the street and you said it was kept on the drive then I think problems would arise with a claim.
I used to put I kept it on the street at my last place, when I kept it on the drive most of the time, little or no cost saving iirc0 -
They only want to know where your car is kept most of the time at night. You are telling them it is on the drive a large percentage of the time but not all the time. If you are away from home your car is still insured.
My car is garaged overnight but occasionally it is on the drive and its still covered.
If you are worried check with you insurance company.£2 Coins Savings Club 2012 is £4.............................NCFC member No: 00005.........

I don't think you will have any problems.
The insurance company don't expect you to not go anywhere else, but you would be expected to put it on the drive when at home.
I have a discount for using a garage for my motorcycle.
If I leave it outside the garage whilst it's close to home then I won't be covered. However if I am away from home I can park it outside.
If I take the discount for garaging then they expect me to do so when at home and not expose the vehicle to a risk I haven't paid for.
There is a specific distance specified in my policy so it's unambiguous as to when it is "at home" and when it is "away from home".
You are certainly able to park where you like when "away from home", however you should adhere to parking on the drive when at home.0 -
This does only apply when you are at the risk address.
What I would advise is though, that if you have declared your vehicle to to be garaged, the insurance company expect it to be garaged EVERY night. Theyu don't go on what you do most of the time. Even if you keep your car on the road for one night in the whole year (at you home address), you would need to declare it as being kept "on the road".Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. I can't see that being the case otherwise pretty much every online insurance has just left themselves wide open to people challenging that statement in court as their online quoting systems state the question as being loosely based on the following "Where is your car normally kept?". If they want to impose such restrictions they should be rewording the question to be "When at your home address where is the car kept overnight?"0 -
Some insurance companies do ask the Question "where is the vehicle parked during the night", rather cunningly leaving out the "usually".
I do work for one such company and have seen claims repudiated on that basis.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -
care to name and shame then so all your fellow moneysavers won't be scammed/fleeced by such a harsh(sorry cunning) insurer?0
