0871 Missed Calls

Have been getting missed calls this week(about 8 so far) My mobile only rings twice then cuts off causing me to get missed calls from the 0871 number.
Knowing that 0871 numbers are premium rate (£1-50 minute) i dont call back, and have never got to the phone quick enough to answer.
thinking about it the people who call me do not pay either as i dont answer,so for any callers who ring them back they are on to a winner! Must be a new scam?? Any views? never happened to me before, but as a company owner my number is in the public domain and i get lots of sales calls anyway but never 0871 before. I find it amusing that registering with the TPS(telephone preference service) seemed to increase my unsolicited calls,My advice is always check codes before dialling, there are more numbers available to purchase now that we do not recognise as premium rate.

is 0871 £1.50 a minute?0

As far as i am aware 0871 is premium rate but the cost can vary depending on the applied rate-it is law that you have to be informed how much the call cost is but in this instance you are choosing to call the number so law does not apply.OH THE JOYS OF BEING SELF-EMPLOYED!! I have had a few of these calls that start with 08,or 07? these personal numbers, they ring you twice in quick succession,as you say,in the hope you will call them back.0

I've had those in the past as well, but I just ignored them. My view regarding unknown missed calls has always been - if it's urgent, they'll ring again, if not, they can sod off; why should I waste time chasing after them >.<0

Sometimes if you google the number you can find out where it came fromMaybe, just once, someone will call me 'Sir' without adding, 'You're making a scene.'0

Have you tried putting the number into http://whocallsme.com/ to see if you can get a bit more info on them? It has come in very useful to me when I have had missed calls from unknown numbers.

I've had a friend caught out with this scam. The scammers only phone a mobile long enough for it to pop up on your screen but not to ring or ring once (so it pops up as a missed call).
The person then rings it back and it's picked up after the first ring, it then plays a recording of the ringing to the poor person that called, As they think it's still ringing (and tharefore not being charged!) they hang on for a min or 2 untill they give up or are out of credit...Laters

I had this a few times on my business line. It is a computer which calls all numbers on their database and if they answer then it is queued for the Call Centre to call you. I googled the number and found that it was registered to a company in Manchester, they were calling on behalf of Learning Direct. I called and spoke to one of the Call Centre Managers who took my details off their Database. I also complained to Learning Direct. It has not happened since and when it happens on my home line I purposely ignore the next call! THAT'S WHAT ANSWER PHONES WERE INVENTED FOR!0
