I'm upgrading (on a budget) at the moment.
I'm going for the quad core q6600
here is a PSU I just ordered http://www.hotukdeals.com/item/185573/corsair-vx-450w-psu-80-plus-certifi/
Free delivery from scan if you go through AV forums
I also bought some of this RAM
    http://www.ebuyer.com/product/116755/show_product_reviews
    Just need a Mobo
I was thinking of this one http://www.amazon.co.uk/FATAL1TY-CHIPSET-FSB1066-PCIex16-MOTHERBOARD/dp/B000OUG6EU
    and graphics card
I'll be going for the 8800 GT ..I'm just holding out for a bargain...

Ask yourself if you really need SLI. You'll almost always get a better bang for your buck with one £200 card than you would from two £100 cards.

£70.50 for the 256MB 8800GT at saverstore.com if you've got your heart set on one of those. I just bought one, but can't use the damn thing until my new PSU arrives, which is gonna be monday hopefully...

It's the XFX Alpha Dog XXX card. Might choke a little at 1600* due to the low memory on it, but at 1024* or 1280* (or if you use an LCD telly with 1366*768) it'll be fine. More than fine. There are 3850s going fairly cheap as well. £88-ish from some places iirc.
They say it's genetic, they say he can't help it, they say you can catch it - but sometimes you're born with it

Hi I got the abit board as a budget o/c board and it's been fine for me-highest o/c 3.85ghz with e2180- but it may be best to get a brand you personally prefer. Gigabyte do some decent budget P35 o/c boards and Asus have some good o/c boards. Always google any motherboard- pref. with the cpu you want as not all m/boards will overclock.

I had to dust off this old thread to announce that I have finally finished the new "Beast" this weekend .
    I got a Antec 900 case
    Q6600 cpu
    Asus p5k motherboard
    Corsair 480 PSU
4 gig of OCZ Ram running at 4.4.4 http://www.ebuyer.com/product/116755/show_product_reviews
Zotac 8800 GT Graphics card http://www.hotukdeals.com/item/193768/zotac-8800-gt-amp-edition-512mb-104/
    750 gig hard drive samsung F1 http://www.scan.co.uk/Product.aspx?WebProductID=708681
and just to [STRIKE]make it look nice inside[/STRIKE] Keep it cool a zalman CPU cooler
    http://www.scan.co.uk/Product.aspx?WebProductId=369638

I ordered the P5K and meant to order the P5K-E ...otherwise perfect

This thing is fast ...all 4 cores running well bellow 40° usually 35° to 38°
motherboard at 38° and graphics at 57°

I can see me having to build another one soon for my son ...
    I think I managed this for about £550 ....
Sorry for reviving the thread but had to tell someone :)

How many fans have you got in the 900?

Get an aftermarket cooler and start to overclock the 8800GT. It's a shame you didn't wait two weeks as the 8800GT's are coming down by £30!

3 x 210 mm fans ..2 at the front and one at the back .
It is a very roomy case .all fans including the Zalman are set to low .

It has taken me an age to get this thing together and I had promised my daughter it would be up and running asap ..So the graphics card was just a case of buying one as cheap and as soon as possible ..There is plenty of room for for a new VGA fan
    .....Maybe this one http://www.scan.co.uk/Product.aspx?WebProductId=683702
