Satellite box/signal woes

Any Satellite boff's about??
My signal has never been great but over the last few weeks it has deteriorated further and now we cant get quite a few channels and others are not great either.

Here is what i have done so far on my sky + box.
On signal test. Signal 1 has 3/4 bar strength and 1/5th bar on quality.
Signal 2 not locked and no strength or quality showing.
Was thinking of changing the LNB and / or the cable. I ran temp cable in and connected it but no differance.

If i swap the input cables from the dish over at the sky box the above stays the same which indicates to me that the dish and cables are ok??
I have tried powering down the sky box and re starting but its no differant. Which indicates to me that the box may be at fault. Occasionally signal 2 reappears for a while and thats the irritating part. Any help would be most welcome.

Have you checked the allignment of the dish? Strong wind or even a large bird can knock it ever so slightly off.

See above.... one signal from the LNB is good the other from same LNB is bad..... So dish must be there or there abouts. I have tried re aligning and its about as good as it gets on signal 1.

signal stength is not the important factor here, the most important one is signal quality,on a clear day you should be looking at getting 60% signal quality, all the signal stength indicator shows is that the connection between the lnb and reciever are good and that there is a signal there, with a quad lnb,(sky plus) you will often find that the differnt outputs from the dish show different levels of signal,i would buy a cheap sat signal meter from ebay, about a fiver and have another go at alligning the dish, and i would also replace the quad lnb, very easy to do and about a tenner on ebay before i replaced the box as this is the cheapest option to rule out any problems

    Ta peeps,
After further web searching and reading up....

I changed the cable and found a damaged bit under the floor in the house.
Also swapped around on the o/p's on the quad lnb.
Reterminated all cable and checked the dish alignment.

After which we have 60% on both signa strengths and 60% + on the quality.

    Happy kids!
