Hi
Am having a new bathroom fitted and am just taking the existing tiles off the walls, doing this has removed some of the skimming plaster leaving a brown surface which I am taking to be plaster??? my question is can tiles be applied directly to this surface of do I need to have it reskimmed first allow it to dry then tile over it?
thanks
Jim

Depending on the amount of skim pulled off the wall. If it is just a smallish amounts here and there you could probably get away with tiling over it (filling in holes with the tile adhesive) but, if the skim has come off in sizeable amount a re-skim is the way ahead. You would need to wait until the skim coat has dried out before retiling, that could take 2-3 days depending on how warm the room/weather is.0

If the holes are not too big, you could use 'Easyfill' or Tetron. Both are good products and can be tiled over. If you are unsure, it may be best to ask a Tilers advice. They can often work wonders on undulating surfaces.Eat vegetables and fear no creditors, rather than eat duck and hide.0
