South Lake Tahoe

Im looking for a hotel for 4 nights, from 27th August. Thing is, the 4 and 5 star ones look a bit mingy and are not much more expensive than the 2 or 3 star ones.

Ideally, we would like a little cabin in the woods but these are quite expensive. Can anyone recommend a nice hotel that doesn't have pine all over the place???

have you tried the casinos - Horizon, Harrah's, Caesar's? Or are they they ones you don't fancy? There are a few nice looking ones on the main road into S Lake Tahoe, on the lakeside as you drive in from the West, but you'll have to search as I don't know the names. We've stayed at the Quality Inn which is VERY basic but well located. The Marriott looks nice as does the Forest Inn and Suites, but they are covered in pine!

Not keen on staying in a casino as we are heading to Vegas from Tahoe and want to save all the gambling for there...
