Sunshine, Big Garden, Huge Rabbit Run = Happy Rabbits

Hello!
As some know ive got alot of animals! I brought my little dwarf rabbits (Hunny & Sunny) 1 year old, a big 6ft long run for the garden. The think its brilliant, i brought it off ebay for about £40 (which is a brilliant price considering argos prices etc!).

Anyway! This run is still in great condition, and is still used by the rabbits. The problem is, we have a really big garden and 6ft is nothing compaired to what they could have! I dont want to move there cages outside. But i was thinking of getting a big 'shed' lets call it, purposely made for rabbits to run in. Maybe something that i could get into too? (Yes that big)

I also have a huge albino and she doesnt get along with the dwarf rabbits atm. (because i havent properly introduced them yet) But also the 6ft run isnt big enough for all 3 rabbits to be in, only big enough for the 1 albino or the 2 dwarfs.

Im wanting something big (shed like) Where they can run on the grass, no roof so they can sit in the sun, but a mesh on the top so the sun gets through but nothing jumps in.
I was wondering what my fellow moneysavers could recommend? I dont have alot of money but i would like to try and keep it under £150? Is that too adventurous?

Thanks! :o

    Hi

Good to hear that you really look after your rabbits and want a big area for them, always makes me mad when you go in pet shops and still see the tiny hutches they sell!

We have a normal size shed for our two rabbits and we have a wire mesh if it's nice weather so we can have the door open and it fits over the door so they get fresh air but not chance of any cats etc getting in! Sounds like you might need a custom run and shed built for you to fully suit your requirements.

Also got one of these hutches for outside in the summer months!

Got off Ebay for a lot cheaper than that.

Hope you manage to find something suitable.

    Cheers
  • Thanks!
Thats exactly what im looking for! :D
I found one on ebay for (buy it now) £150, but there bidding on some for about £40 with 1 day left.

Ill keep having a look but thats the sort of thing im looking for! :j

Im also looking to rescue another rabbit for my lonely (neutered) female lol she was rather ill in december when we first rescued her but nows she back to full health were thinking of getting her a friend!
My other rabbits, hunny & sunny are quite happy in the run, but i love seeing them running full speed across the living room floor and having fun, but they'd be much happier playing outside!

Our rabbits have a cat flap from the shed where their open hutches are to the garden.. It is a closed garden so they can go in and out as they please.. we have 3 rabbits and 2 guinea pigs.

They share the garden with out 2 dogs, and we have never ever had a problem.

We used to have a fenced off area in the garden which they went in when it was nice and after a few escaping incidents we noticed the dogs and rabbits got on together fine.

Anyhow, just wanted to say, a fenced area would be cool, maybe metal though to stop them chewing it?

Also, i've noticed our rabbits don't come out in the sunshine during the day, must be too hot for them, but they are always out first thing and last thing, so these are the best times for them.

Guinea pigs are always muching the lawn, so much so that we don't have to cut it anymore :)

  • Our Albino is a huge lop, and if im going to get her a boyfriend (hehe) then he needs to be about the same size, and i dont want them to be locked up in a cage all day. The cage is a really big size but because shes so big it would really just fit her. So if i got her a boyfriend i need somewhere i can put them the majority of the time (from 8am til 11pm) but then i can bring them back inside from 11pm til 8am for bedtime. I hope this is making sence! lol i dont want them to be out door rabbits due to the albinos past experience (she gets very frightened being outside) but she copes well being in a run as its just the right amount of freedom for her i guess

I dont no i think im making myself go round in circles atm! lol

Hopefully you'll be able to get that hutch at a decent price - think we paid about £90 last year from a pet shop on Ebay (much better than £200+). Bit of a tip, it can also be described as a chicken coop so maybe search for that in Ebay/Google.

Arrived in 2 massive flat packs but dead easy to put together, you just secure all the panels together. Still looks just as good as the day we got it and very good quality and thick wood, we've yet to see a hutch as good in terms of quality and design. What we liked about it was we could put them out in it and if the weather changed and it rained they were still undercover.

If i can help further, let me know.
  • Ill keep having a look. Im thinking of getting an actual shed (ours is like a wendy house which is very old and nasty) so maybe get rid of that shed and buy a new one and make it rabbit friendly :)

I dont want them to be outdoor rabbits, but obviously i want them to be outside due in the day when its sunny, but come to there cages inside on an evening, where there safe and have lots of cuddles before bed! lol :)
