Pontins Southport-anyone Been?

(((this is a copy of my wrongly named Butlilns at southport thread as I meant to write Pontins lol..)))

After successfully winning one of the Mon-Fri freebie holidays posted a couple of days ago I was just wondering if anyone had been there? i have been reviewing it online and Im very scared now. Now I dont mean to sound snobbish as I am very grateful for the break but so many of the reviews say its filthy, boring, noisy, nothing to do for the kids etc? I realise you get what u pay for and we aren't paying, all i want is for it to be clean! They will make their money back from us anyway in the arcades no doubt! Also what else is there to do in and around area (any moneysaving tips too?). Lastly after southport we are heading back north on our way home so any other ideas on places to go/visit/stay for 3 days? we are thinking maybe haven for 3 days if we leave it til last minute we may manage to sneak a cheap-ish 3 day in one of the many havens on the way back up..thanks in advance xmyx :j

    Hi

I went to Pontins on a cheap sun holiday last year. I read the reviews too and got scared so i decided to upgrade to their better accomodation. This was reasonably clean and very basic considering it was meant to be luxury but it was ok. Pontins itself was sad and tired and IMO lacked the holiday feeling and mood. It did rain though which never helps matters!

We used it as a base, mainly for Blackpool and didnt spend much time on the site at all. I hope you have a car because you cant reasonably expect to walk anywhere from Pontins...but there are plenty of places to drive to.

The only other issue that I really remember was that there was no mobile signal on site. Having 2 teenagers meant that this made it difficult to keep track of them. It was Ok, it wasnt that bad but I wouldnt go again. Hope this helps.
    This ain't no technological breakdown..
Oh no, this is the road to hell.:(

thanks for the advice, yes we do have a car so since its a 4 day i thought we could maybe go to blackpool for the day, southport itself seems to have a few things so thats another day, maybe liverpool and maybe stay in camp for the day-if theres anything to do. we really dont have much spare money to spend though thats why we jumped at the chance to a freebie break. glad theres no mobile signal=get some peace..was there much to do for little kids during day on the actual park? thankyou xmyx

dire (one mum told me she just takes all of her cleaning gear with her and cleans it out first which i thought was a good idea) the entertainment we had for the toddlers made up for it. also i think it is the most child friendly. we didn't have time to go to the pool but that looked great. they also have pgl that run the climbing frame and trampolines. we visited southport which is quite upmarket - victorian arcade and ate at a tea room on the first day there but a bit pricey but different. we went to liverpool for the afternoon and walked around the new port development which is mainly restaurants such as Ask etc which is ok but then we are not keen on big towns. we also went to blackpool but actually parked the next town up from there which we visited. not much to see in that town and a bit run down but the waterfront walk was lovely. i think if we had had time we owuld have gone to the lake district - maybe you could do this on your way back up north maybe? anyway my daughter and i really enjoyed it . i thikn my partner was a bit more shocked but i would go to another resort again - just for the toddler entertainmetn!!! th

  • I have been - and would recomend you upgrade to the better accommodation, to be honest, for the money it's OK. The pool is good, if you have young ones they will love the entertainment, teenagers, well they are teenagers!
There is a bus into southport from the gate, in Southport they have splashwold (an indoor waterpark), a fairground, mini railway mini golf, the second largest pier in the UK, great beach, and shopping is good too. Also check what week you are going, as southport has loads of festivals as well like comedy, food, Open Golf, AirShows, etc try www.visitsouthport.co.uk we had a great time.
