Electricity DD Increase
Just had a letter from EON regarding my monthly DD payment. I am currently paying £49 a month but have had a letter stating that my monthly DD payment is changing to £88 a month!!! TBH i am thinking about going back to EDF Energy who i was with before as i feel that this is too much of a hike. Has anybody else encountered this type of increase?

This kept happening to us when we were with British Gas, even though our prices were fixed, and when we complained we were they come out with all kind of excuses. We had enough of them and moved to Ebico where we pay quarterly.0

They have probably increased the payments as you are not paying enough an owe them some money0

I've found myself in the same situation when my DD was increased from £93 to £171 per month. I called them only to be told that they couldn't go any lower than £140. I said that I still couldn't afford it and would be shopping around but, unfortunately, E-On are my cheapest option.
I reckon I had been underpaying by about £15 per month but settled the difference when the bill came in. However, it still didn't justify the hike of £78 per month.
I sent an e-mail telling them that I'd have to borrow to make ends meet should they insist on forcing the increased charge on me. I also said I couldn't understand the hike as my gas consumption was almost static although my electricity had gone up by about 1,000kWh per annum.
A letter finally arrived today telling me the DD was being reduced to £118 per month. I had hoped for about £108 but, with prices expected to rise, decided this was good enough and to let it be... for now!0 -

You may be paying £49 but is it enough to cover your actual usage? e.g. £588 per annum is way below average. Normally the direct debit amount is calculated on your previous usage and it's easy for you to do this calculation for yourself. Based on your previous years total consumption in kWh, work out the annual cost at the current rate per unit. Your last bill will show if you are in arrears and this would have to be taken into account for the monthly DD payment. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -
EON have just had a new Direct Debit system installed, which is why lots of people are receiving letters advising them of increased payments. As the previous post says, it calculates what you have used in the last year and therefore what it expects you to use in the coming year. It takes into account any debit on the account and wants your balance to be zero when it reviews it this time next year. The idea is that you don't owe anything in a year and they don't owe you.0
