Elecrticity - British Gas

Hi,

Wonder if anyone has any advice?

Moved into a new house almost 6 months ago. We had a bill back in December for £1700!!! We had only been in a few weeks!! So we called them up, gave them a reading and then about 8 weeks later we received 3 bills on the same day for differing amounts: £800, £1100 and £1800!!!

Called them up, gave them a further reading, then a few days later another bill came thru for £1800, which dated back to 6 months before we even moved in!! called them and they said to ignore it as it included all electricity used by the previous occupier and to expect our next bill in May, that they had already billed for their current period and won't be billing again till then. Offered to make a payment they wouldn't even allow us to do this until the actual bill comes thru in May?!

So now it's May, not received anything (yet) but am expecting a mother of an electricity bill covering 6 months! What I need to know is, if the bill is mega-huge, would we be able to spread it maybe over a couple of months? And if so, would that prevent us from fixing the price to save us absorbing the big expected rise in price? Sorry if I'm being a dumba$$ in asking this before the bill even comes thru.

Anyone had anything similar?

Thanks in advance ;)

They should allow you to pay back any arrears over the amount of time that you were not billed, therefore 6 months. You should make a complaint about the way you have been billed and also ask for a copy of their code of paractice.
