Barclaycard

Hi,
This is more of a rant really than anything else.
I have just phoned Barclaycard up to make a full payment to my card. The balance is just over £500. I am told that despite the multitude of security questions asked of me that they will not accept a payment of over £100 in any 31 day period due to fraud. I find this utterly outragous, especially as I never signed any terms and conditions where this was mentioned.
Also, as I incurred charges for late payments on this account (due to late wage payments) I asked for a list of charges on the account - I was told that this would cost me £216, but not before being told that they could only give me the last 6 months over the phone.
The 1998 data protection act states that a nominal payment of £10 would be the norm.
Is there anything I can do (apart from obviously closing the account, which I will be doing once I am able to actually make a full payment)?

Have you internet banking? If so make the payment to Barclaycard that way.
With regards to the charges - I assume that you've no longer got your statements. Does the potential charge of £216 equate to providing duplicate statements? Is the list of the charges needed so that your employer can pay them ?2014 Target;

Perhaps you could contact the Information Commissioner's Office and ask for some guidance from them on how you should proceed?dchurch24 wrote:The 1998 data protection act states that a nominal payment of £10 would be the norm.

If you choose to write (their e-mail communications are not secure), you could send a copy of your letter to the bank/credit card provider, which may help expedite a favourable resolution.0 -
I also find this really annoying - you can pay between your min. amount and max. £100.
I understand that to be able to pay any amount on the debit card you used, you have to wait 90 days to be able to pay any amount using the same card.
I just pay the £100 max. and the rest via internet banking/bill payment. Works a treat

Is there any reason that you split the payments in this way? I just make the one payment per month, settling up the whole balance, via internet banking. I've done this for the last few months now since getting the card and they've never queried it or added on any charges or interest

As stated in my previous message, I also pay via internet banking. But, internet Banking takes slightly longer to reach your account plus I'm logged in to check my Barclaycard account so paying while I'm their sounds logical.Curry_Queen wrote:Is there any reason that you split the payments in this way? Regardless, having the £100 max. p/m via Barclaycard is nonsensical - they say they are looking at ways around this which suggests even they don't like the £100 p/m max. rule but, I don't understand (the logic) why 90 days waiting period when obviously suspect payments can easily be made via internet banking.
Who's it helping and or stopping here?Proudly Banking & Saving With:

My (ex) Employer has agreed to look into some sort of resolution regarding these charges as they were a direct result of their failure to pay me on time.0 -

That's fine if it works for you, I just think I'd end up getting muddled up if I was paying someone twice each month from different sources LOL!
What I do is check online at barclaycard when the next statement is due, and make a note of the balance and the date it's due, then log onto my bank account and set up a bill payment for that amount to be paid 3 working days before due date, although it's usually always gone through within 2 days but I'd rather be safe than sorry!
It makes me wonder whether they do this to deter people from paying off their whole balance each month so they can accrue interest charges

Hi Curry_Queen
I'm quite an early payer - I usually pay the same day the statement is done, so I've really no need to rush a payment to them via their (Barclaycard) website, for sake of maybe a day difference at most
Your right
The statements are always done the same day every month and as I pay at least £100 p/m I could just do it at the same time I'm logged into internet banking
Please accept my sincere apologies. My last reply too you sounded a bit stand-off'ish - not my intentionProudly Banking & Saving With:

No don't worry, you didn't sound stand-offish at all!
Everyone has their own way of doing things, whatever's easiest and suits them. I like to maximise my "free credit" with them and leave it to the latest possible time to pay so my money's earning me interest and not them
