    hi

having been to moscow with chelsea a few years ago and following chelsea around europe for many years

moscow is completley diff to any where else

you do as you are told or you get arrested simple as that

also we had to go through 4 rows of police to get to the ground each time showing our tickets

every now and then a policeman would just wonder off with one

those tickets on the open market were worth about £50 these tickets are worth £1-2000 they earn £50 a month so i can see more going off to check tickets !!!

this is why i am not going even though i have a ticket in my wallet

the whole place is corupt and the final should have never been there in the first place

i cant imagine they can "cage" over 50,000 fans in these so called fanzones unless they are absolutely huge.

Given that neither Man Utd nor Chelsea came close to selling their allocations of 21,000 tickets, there is going to be nothing like 50,000 travelling fans heading for Moscow. :)

Add to that the fact that a lot of those tickets sold were to ST holders hoping to cash in and now struggling to sell their tickets, and I think the actual number of travelling fans will be incredibly low for a CL final. :)

This is going to be the strangest Champions League final ever. I live in Manchester, but support City. I know many United Season Ticket holders, and between all of them, none are going, and they only know TWO people who say they are! I'm told that at the last game at OT virtually everyone was making "other" plans to watch the game on telly! Nine years ago in Barcelona, everyone went. Not this time?

After last Wednesday, and the images of all those Sweatys running riot in Manchester. I can't see the Russian authorities giving you any choice in the matter? You will be firmly escorted to the holding area, where you will stay. Personally, I don't see the sense in it? Why invite all these people, then put up the city shutters?

Are you staying overnight and if you are which hotel are you staying in? I could suggest some things to do if you say how long you are staying.

It will be very handy to learn in advance the names of significant landmarks in Cyrillic alphabet, and if you are planning to get to the stadium by metro, the names of the Metro stop you get on (for Red Square it's Biblioteka immeni Lenina on the red line no1 marked last station Yugo Zapadnaya) and off (Sportivnaya on the red line). If you are using the metro, it is extremely difficult for a non Cyrillic reader and then you have the problem of interchange stations have different names for each line so, unlike on the London Underground or Paris Metro, and then you will be squashed as sardines!!! The metro may be much faster than a taxi, a loads cheaper, as the roads around the Luzhniki will be packed.

I was in Moscow when Celtic played last year. There were many fans also bused to the game, but many who made it independently. If you want to avoid being hurded onto the special transport, then do not wear or carry anything which would suggest you are a football fan. I personally would not wear any football paraphenalia around Moscow either and keep a bag of it to put on, just before arriving at the stadium.

The Moscow people can appear very impolite and push alot and don't look where they are walking. Do not be upset at their manners, it's just the way the Moscow people live. You won't see a kind and warm side to them, until you get to know them a bit better. I must say I found the minority population such as Uzbeks and Armenians to be far more polite and friendly. I spent a long time there with kids last Summer and never once felt I was unsafe with 4 kids alone. I wasn't even bothered by the high number of military and ordinary Police you see around.

Are you using your ticket to get a visa waiver? If so, you are going to find it pretty much impossible to avoid the authorities ...
    Gone ... or have I?
  • your right dmg24 i have never been to moscow before, but i have followed united abroad quite a few times, and in my expierences you are free to wander about

i understand what your saying about the russian and i know they have a hard reputation, so i could probably agree with you if there were a couple of thousand england fans going, but this is over 50,000 english fans, many of who will be there the day before and making there way to the ground from the hotel, how are the police going to know who is who

we will see what happens, but thanks for the warning

    baron

they will be able to tell all the Man U fans no trouble..... from their Surrey accents....;)

Being a Liverpool Fan and being to Moscow back in 2002
I echo everything John77 states above

this is one Final I'm glad I'm not going

one tip for anyone going over there, any money you have on you
spread it about (in differant pockets) or hide some down your sock/shoe

because the place is so corrupt they will fine you for the slightest thing
back in 2002 it was easier to find someone who had not been fined then who had

henece I'm glad I'm not going

The CFC website says they all sold out last weekend, and I'm sure Utd have too

Think your right on both points
    1) the sheer cost of a trip, beside all the hassle with it (at least its a little easier now the visa thing is sorted) don't think it will be a full house though
if we had got through i myself could of got a ticket, doubt very much if i would of took it, not like me that, very strange
    2) hope the second leg is at Anfield, must admit 3 times is getting a bit boring now
