Northern Rock E-Saver

Options
 I apologise if this has already been raised elsewhere. As you know, Northern Rock is a pretty safe place to put your savings (right now anyway) but, doesn't pay great interest rates. As I already am with them, I found out that they have just started offering a new E-Saver account today at a 6% rate. If you want to combine a reasonable rate with safety, you might want to open one of these. I suspect it won't be available for long.

  • What a load of idiots at NR . I opened a silver online saver when it was 6.25%, I deposited £52,000, two weeks later they dropped it 6.00%, a bit later they dropped it to 5.30% , I pulled my money out and split it between kaupthing and icici which I already had an account with. If they had opened this account when they dropped the rates on the silver saver, I would have transfered!

I agree, the new setup there seems to be as incompetent as it's predecessor.
I moved out a substantial sum, as well, which I'd have transfered to the new esaver. What a shower of wallies.

I still have my Silver Savings account with them but I've asked if this can be transferred. If not, I'll just open a new account and transfer it myself.

The only thing I would point out is that this new e-saver is a 'strictly limited issue' and as far as I can see, carries no interest rate guarantee at all. It has all the hall-marks of a 'suck 'em in and then drop the rate quickly' product. Looks like they are desperately seeking a quick injection of deposits.

The now discontinued Silver Saver may not have a market leading rate, but at least it comes with the guarantee to be at least base rate until 31st January 2010. ;)

The E-saver was very easy to open. If you are already an online customer you get an account number online immediately. Silver savings can then be transferred easily with immediate effect.

I left £1 in Silver Savings to keep the account open just incase E-saver drops and silver savings goes up ....... you never know with NR :rotfl:

Can you please confirm that you were able to carry out a transfer from your Silver Savings to your new e-Saver account ON-LINE? It's just that the T&Cs for the new account refer to having to complete a transfer request form and send it to Head Office, but I suspect this is just a legacy of a cut and paste job from an earlier set of T&Cs.

  • Oblivion - As long as you have an ONLINE silver saver account, you can then transfer across to your new e-saver (your new e-saver will appear as a new account in your list immediately) and you will see it has arrived in the new e-saver immediately. I managed it and I'm no technical computer whizz kid lol
