    Hi,

You should apply for a HC2 certificate, you can get the form for this from your doctors or dentist surgery, fill it in and send it off and you will get a certificate saying what free health care you are entitled to. On the form put that you want to claim some back and then you can reclaim that amount you have paid

    H

PS, you are lucky being on the NHS and being able to claim it back, I am stuck with a private dentist, I used to be on NHS til out dentist practice went private and I was unable to get an NHS one, I am now paying over £16 a month even though I am only at dentist twice a year.

  • I am over 19 and joining a full time course -

    I have an NHS dentist

Can I claim free dental treatment or am I way too old?????
    I want to...........?
  • Go to this website and request to be sent a HC1 form:
    http://www.ppa.org.uk/ppa/HC1_form.htm

If you earn less than £8,000 you should be entitled to an HC2 certificate, which entitles you to free dental work, eye tests and prescriptions. Anyone can apply, regardless of age.

Most students qualify because they have a low income, but being a student itself is not a guarantee that you will qualify.

Also, if you are in Wales and under 25, prescriptions are paid for by the Welsh Assembley, and you get them for free.
  • you only get free treatment if your UNDER 19. so the day you reach 19 is the day you start paying. i think you can get help towards treatment i think not 100% sure its an AG1 form to claim towards costs.

As posted above, it's a HC1 form which leads to a HC2 certificate being awarded if you are eligible.

If you are eligible for full support (because of a low income) you can get free treatment regardless of your age.

yep they're right you need to fill in a health costs form. worth noting that it doesn't consider your parents income (unlike SLC) so if you earn more than 8,000 you will have to pay. once you get the form it lists everything you get free, so i can take mine to the dentist, the opticion etc etc it starts valid for one year.

if you earn over 8,000 a year as a f/t student.... can you tell me how?!

  • i have the form with me, and if you have over £8000 in savings / bonds etc you cannot claim the money.

however confusingly i need to have a filling done but will be going away from the dentist and i only get back after my 19th birthday.

i rang up the dental practice to confirm details of whether i am still entitled to have free dental care as im 19 but still in full time education. the lady i spoke to had to find out from someone else, but she said that as i am still in full time education i wouldn't have to pay. but this goes against what all of u are saying, so it is now too late to have a dentists appointment before i turn 19 and it now seems like i will have to pay which is rather annoying!

i was going to post a new thread about this but it is lucky taht someone beat me too it

i have sent off for the hc1 form, i am a 22yr old student nurse..so i do pay for dentist? im getting £5k per yr bursary and thats my income
  • Hmm this is all confusing to me now...

I'm a full time student (at uni, 4th year), and currently earn about £40 a week (in a supermarket), so around £2000 a year... I also get full student loan and my tuition fees paid for me as my parents are below the threshold.
I sent off the HC1 form, and a couple of weeks later got a HC2 certificate saying that I had to pay the first £180's worth of any treatment that I had over the course of the next year! Does this sound right or have they made a mistake??

The allowance incldes your student loan.

And Im a full time student and I earn more than 8000 per year. Cos I kept my old job on, at 25 hours per week (averaged over a year).
