I've been duped by N Power!

Feel like such an idiot!

Back in December two young men came knocking on my door asking me to change over to them, N Power, so I gave them my British Gas bills and said if you can beat what I pay everymonth (bearing in mind I was fixed price) then I will move over. They showed me all these figures, convinced me if I moved over my billls would be much better than with BG. So I did! That was my first mistake.

Fortunatly I have had to move back to parents so cancelled everything.

I have just had my N Power bill which is effectively my First and Last bill and it is through the roof.

I didnt put the heating on much through xmas and winter as I was watching the pennies, but my bill is exactly double what I paid when I was with BG!

I feel compltely done over.

I had a salesman turn up at my door and said they wanted my meter number. I questioned why and he said a lot of stuff but didn't disclose what he was up to. Then he was very pushy wanting to see my power bill and when I was reluctant he became almost agressive. So I started grilling him and said I was ringing my company to get to the bottom of it and stood on the phone while he was at the door. Then he finally disclosed he was from NPower. I think he was going to change the power over without my knowledge! I've now rung my company and said under no circumstances to change the supply without first ringing and checking just to be sure.

Never answer the door to an N-power salesman!

A couple of years ago I had an N-power rep knock at my door, 9pm at night and it was pitch black. I am disabled and live alone, so yes I should have taken my own advice and not answered the door!

This chap told me that he was from my electricity supplier and it had come to light that I was paying too much so he needed to check my bills. He asked me to show him my recent bills. I refused and told him I was with another supplier and had no wish to change. He then got really pushy - almost aggressive - and said that N-power are the electricity supplier for the area and my provider is only a middleman. It made much more sense to cut out the middle man and reduce my bills, and all my neighbours had changed over. He kept insisting on seeing my bills and would not take no for an answer.

In the end I shut the door on him and walked away with him still shouting through the door 'don't you want to save money?'

It was quite an unnerving experience. So much so that I complained to N-power, but I never heard any more about it.

Nowadays if anyone comes to my door selling utilities I just say 'No' and shut the door.

Yep, I ve learned the hardway!

I have phoned N Power to tell them im disgusted in the way they got me to become a customer, and I wont be rushing to pay the final bill I tell you (they can have them in instalements). Unless they do something amazing for me, when I move back into my own home in a few months I wont be continuing my service with them and any poor sucker who decides to knock on my door to change over with them will be getting a earful!

Marker - can I suggest that you amend the title of your post to make it clear that you have been duped by N Power. This might help others who have had a similar experience.

The only reason I was suspicious was I heard about other people getting conned into changing their telephone providers. I almost gave the number to him as it was at the same time they do the quarterly bills and at first I thought he was just doing the meter reading for billing purposes. I saw something on Watchdog (I think it was that program) and they said there had been a lot of complaints recently about them and sales tactics, maybe you should get in touch with energy watch and see if they've any advice?
