Star charts rewarding 'desired behaviour' are what the medical students are taught to recommend... along with 'don't get upset when accidents happen - and they will'.
Principle is that Ashli gets a star each time she sits on or uses the potty. At the end of the week if she has used it 5 out of 7 or every day (or whatever your criteria are) she gets some kind of reward (trip to library, new clothes etc). As the weeks progress, to get the reward she has to go each day or twice a day etc. The other thing, keep asking her if she wants to use the potty or go to the toilet. It will be hard at first but it does get easier!
That said, some children progress straight from nappies to the toilet and bypass the potty completely!

Sar,
Joe took ages to potty train-it takes perserverance, and lots of it.
Keep sitting Ash on the toilet and eventually she will go. Put her on it every 20 mins or so.
After the first time Joe did a wee on the potty, he was sorted in a day or 2 really! He HAS been dry at nights but has wee'd the bed 3 times this week-so nappies back on...I think the house change and having a cold hasnt helped.
I was wondering where Ratatouille went! I had to watch the Disc 2 to that the other day before the cable was hooked up and it was boring, lol. Wanted my Remy Rat!!!!
Len, glad you appreciate my humour.Empty pockets never held anyone back, only empty heads and empty hearts can do that -Peale0 -

I'm doing that with her big girl pants... she's getting a 'present' ie another pair (was a pack of 5) every time she goes and sits on the toilet.. lol
She's got a pair of shoes for her first proper reward though!Total 'Failed Business' Debt £29,043

Bribery works very well... my neice had been potty trained and then relapsed. In the end her parents took all the toys out of her bedroom and she earned them back one at a time over the next six months - no more accidents!
Good luck with it Sarah!
