front end noise

hi,
i have a noise coming from the front end of my car.
Its a knocking noise that can be heard when on rough ground or sometimes when accelerating hard or applying the brakes. I was going to leave it till the MOT in July only today i noticed when applying the power - either pulling away form a standing start, after changing gear or accelerating in gear - the steering wheel is momentarily pulled sharply to the right and them centres again.
any ideas what it can be?
Can i leave it until July?
Car is a Mitsubishi Galant Estate 1997 if that makes any difference.
Cheers,

It sounds exactly like our car was suffering from in the end, they'd been worn for a long time but in the end the completely knackered one was banging and the other side had split. It would cause the steering to pull to the right.
They are a service item and are normally just a couple of bolts, an hours labour is normally enough to fit one side, a decent place will charge for 30 minutes.0 -
I second Bushes worn out.
does the wheel wobble if you moved it with your foot from front to back?0 -
definatly sounds like a suspension bush, also check all ball joints and shockers....work permit granted!0

I am afraid details are lost in the mists of my memory, but the 1998 S plate Mitsubishi Galant I once had, had a recall / warranty piece of work done on it (when it was 5 years old!!!) which was something to do with suspension / track rods at the front. Might be worth having a dig into exactly what this issue was and checking the work was done on your car.
Bushes do seem a likely culprit too though.0
