wtc and varied hours

my husband has been offered a job, but the hours seem to vary . he has been told it is a min of 16 hrs a week but some weeks it could be 40 hrs. they have said the average is about 30-35 hrs a week. but obviously he would only get paid on the amount of hours he worked.
how would we be able to give them our earnings for the year ?

    Hi

By no means am I a tax credit expert but if his potential employers have said his hrs will average 30-35 per wk then I would estimate earnings on a 32.5 hr wk, as he'll have some wks he'll wrk less/more its best to work out the average.

The last thing you want is to be overpaid by tax credits so be careful. Its a tricky situation but if your husband earns less you'll get what your owed around this time next yr.

    Good luck x
  • Work out an estimate as fairplay4u has said and possibly overestimate the income a little in case he earns a bit more.

TCO normally calculate the WTC you are entitled to based on your Previous Year's income anyway.

Tax credits are usually based on your previous years income anyway because it is so difficult to predict what you will earn this year. Unless the estimate you give means that this years household income is less than last years then this years figure won't be used until april 09. Give your best estimate of what his income will be and if that means that your overall household income will be lower this year then I suggest rounding it up a bit to make sure you aren't overpaid. When you do your declaration next year, if the estimate you gave was too low then any money owed to you will be paid as a lump sum.
