Sonsorship

I have no problem with giving money to the charities that I choose.

What really annoys is my colleagues who will insist on presenting me with a sponsorship form for a ‘wild and wacky’ event for a charity in which I have no interest in supporting.

Generally they have managed to get a couple of people to start the form with large ‘benchmark’ sums and can get quite offensive if you refuse to follow suit by either not sponsoring them or by just donating a token sum.

I've got to agree with you Highway Man.

Very recently, a guy who treats me like the sh*t under his shoe came swanning over to talk to me. He can't usually look my way, let alone talk to me ::).

He said he was doing some charity event thing and would I like to sponsor him. I said no..........he was shocked and said "Oh, ok."

I've been a collector for a charity, stood on a high street on a busy Saturday in freezing winter. I remember someone gave me a donation out of sympathy because I'd been rooted to the same spot for four hours.

I also give regularly to charity (buying a weekly lotto ticket ;D) and my Christmas doesn't start until I've donated a quid to the Salvation Army and requested them to play 'I saw three ships' in their brass ensemble.

............but don't think you can shame me into parting with my hard earned cash........just cus you work at the same place.

I am also with you on this one Highwayman. I point blank refuse to give to 'Children in Need' (long story but it relates to how a child that phoned in was treated by Esther Rantzen and how some of the money is wasted on unnecessary things). I also hate the stupid things that people do - generally because they want to get their own mugs on TV standing behind a large (in size) cheque that advertises a particular banks name (I wonder how much those cheques cost and given the number of them would it not be better to give the money directly to charity instead).

I have charities that I support and refuse to be blackmailed into giving to those that I do not like or believe to be wasteful. I therefore will refuse to give but let the person know that I will make an additional contribution to one of the charities I support.

I don't care about your first world problems; I have enough of my own!
  • The banks hand out the big cheques for 'free' because it's free advertising for them on National TV.

Children in Need is a pet hate of mine to because the already poor schedules are cleared to make way for a bunch of z list 'celebs' to make fools of themselves.

I don't really want to get into who gives what but I am prepared to share my list of charities with you all.

Leukemia charities (my mother in law died with Leukemia).

Multiple Sclerosis charities (I have MS).

Mountain Rescue Teams (it's the only true form of insurance in the hills).

Lifeboats (the same as mountain rescue teams but at sea).

Poppys (we all owe so much to so many).

I also have a problem with a charity that asks for donations of clothes - the reason i have this problem is cos when hubby once thought he might be made redundant he came home with a mag all about starting your own franchise and lo and behold this charity was in it - someone takes a cut out of what you donate - i have no probs with the charity in itself. I ease my conscience my donating instead directly to a similar local charity instead

I hate it when the kids need sponsorship, and only ask immediate family and 1 neighbour.

All this comes from a bloke where i used to work who would walk around each floor of the office with his sponsor form, talking loudly to everyone around and stand over you waiting for you to fill his form in.

I did once say 'no thankyou'.

it's great that there are some people who will go out of their way to do sponsored things to raise money. but the correct way to request sponsorship would be to pin it on the board and announce to everyone that it's there, and when it will be collected. i'd have been much more likely to sponsor him then!

It is annoying, isn't it? I detest people wanting sponsorship for some charity or other that I know nothing about. Call me tight, but I do want to know something about the charity and how they help whatever before I delve into my purse. Therefore, I only give to charities that I know (and generally who have helped someone that I know).

Near me one of the Tescos has a deposit point for you to put a tin of cat food in for the local Cats' Protection homes. At least you know that that will hopefully be going directly to the cats (?!).

My boyfriend has just come back from work and told me that there's yet another charity collection this week (they had a "home clothes day" last week) to name a teddy bear for some random charity or other. Apparently he said that he didn't want to give to charity this week and the person doing the collection got really huffy as if it was the biggest crime in the world. Whilst I was working there (am now a student again!) I was asked to name numerous teddies, wear normal clothes on various occasions (not that I did on a couple of them), etc etc. It's just not on!
