And thats a very good point, Incisor. Though to be fair, you can get access to CV's pretty much anywhere, but it does raise interesting questions about Social Engineering.0

I have seen the CV's produced by jobcentres they're cruddy to say the least. Can't believe that anyone would pay for a CV review - I will do it for free. I have a standard CV that I tweak according to the jobs that I am applying for although now my CV is my CV because not applying for anymore jobs as setting up on own:D
Seriously, I will review a CV for free.
Horace, I wasn't directly working for the jobcentre, I was working for a private company (training provider) where the jobcentre would send long term unemployed. Not a great job for me considering the number of people who simply didn't want to work.
I agree the CV's produced by the jobcentres were cruddy, I saw some awful ones in my time.
We coached on CV's, application forms, interview techniques, customer service skills and also basic skills.
There were a lot of people who simply expected you to write the CV's and Application Forms for them to which I used to refuse, I believe they need a personal touch and need to reflect your personality.
Needless to say I wasn't providing this service of writing CV's and Application Forms for people, it didn't go down very well with my managers who just wanted to shove people in any job so that they hit Jobcentre targets.
I have my bog standard CV that I tailor for each job I go for, I have never seemed to have any problems in getting an interview from these. A lot of CV and application form writing is just common sense and reading the job specification thoroughly.0 -
I had a free Fuller CV review. I couldnt upload mine to their site so i rang them up!
It had uploaded and they said they'd call back and they did two days later!
But it was a bit vague they just try and reel you in to buy a bespoke one created by a professional in your field/career etc.
There was very little actual cv review more of a career chat then a bit about my cv very quickly then hard sell.
The prices went up with the salary range you are looking to earn and an optional £70 for a covering letter. I brushed them off, they were quite persistent (but then this is their business) they rang me up constantly for about a week then got the message. I went to them because i'd applied for lots of jobs and wasnt getting anywhere. Then funnilly enough i've started to get a bit of interest...
There's loads of free advice on the net.0 -
DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY!! The free CV review is to tell you how bad your CV is. For a consultant to call you the cost depends on the salary you are looking for i.e. 19k - £119.00 between £40k-£50k - £299.00
I booked and was told that a consultant would call and spend between three quarters of an hour to two hours depending on the information thats needed to be covered. Obviously if your young, a shorter call - less past jobs.
I was told that I didn't need to do anything as the consultant was a professional and would taylor my CV from our indepth conversation of my experience, skills and past roles.
Once booked you cannot cancel without a penalty even if you find a job in between!
I was called by the consultant some 10 MINS LATE and whilst explaining to the consultant why I had changed my career direction, I was told that I was wasting my booking time. I was also told that he would have to have a word with the office (they must be self - employed consultants or sub contractors) as the call is supposed to be like an interview.
He spent a total of 1 hr and 2 mins on the phone ONLY (obviously an Hr is all you are going to get!) and wanted figures, account details, percentages and markets sizes from a position I had held some 6 years previous. Information that I could have had prepared should I have been advised.
My CV turned out to have errors and was based on guestimated figures - not very professional! I now have to rewrite my CV to put it right.
I felt the whole thing was rushed and that I didn't get to say what I wanted to say to enhance my CV. And if I did want to say anything I was wasting some of my £310.00 per Hr time!
Bottom line: Very expensive, Rushed, HIGHLY NOT RECOMMENDED!!0 -
I took vol redundancy at end of april, now I have applied for job seekers allowance signed on, no money yet in my account from the gov, signed on with one agency. Have re-done my cv with the help of 'next steps' which is a charity organisation recommended to me by the jobcentre and yet the agency still want to do their own cv.
I wish to work in the town I live in Bury, and the agency said I would be restricting myself by doing that. I told them I was aware of that and it was because I did not want to travel far anymore. After 22 years of driving into Manchester I have had enough.
Got a letter from council asking for 3 months bank statements to claim council tax benefit, hope that works, although I may not get time to claim it if I get a job in the meantime.Mortgage Free 2016Work Part Time:DHouse Hunting In France 20230
