Concerned about energy costs - something not right

Hi,
I've been with Powergen - now Eon for a couple of years now. My bills have been high for a while now, but everytime I question Eon they say it's correct. However, when I take my yearly Kwh consumption and do a search via uswitch I get a quote that costs half of what I'm paying!
From last May to this May I've paid - £1015. Yet when I put my yearly Kwh into Uswitch I get a quote of under £500 for the year! Why is there such a difference? Does anyone know why there are two different costs?
I live in a groundfloor 2 bedroom cottage-style flat. I appreciate that I may use a lot of energy, but don't understand why the Kwh don't match up with the cost. It seems such a huge amount to pay. Can anyone help?
Are we still waiting to sing as hummingbirds?

You have quoted monetary figures but no kWh figures. What is your kWh consumption? How do you pay for your electricity, credit meter or pr-payment? Do you have a cheap rate tariff e.g. E7 etc?

  • My electricity was 4555 and my gas 625.
I pay for both by direct debit. I'm on an energy online saver 5 tariff.
    Hope this can help!

The electricity units are kWh, did you convert the gas units to kWh before using the comparison sites? Depending if you have an imperial or metric meter it equates to either 6818 kWh or 19294 kWh. It is the kWh figures that you need to enter into comparison sites. Conversion here.

  • Aha - that perhaps explains things. I'll do a conversion and check again. Thanks very much for your help! :T

Hi, not sure if this helps you but I'm with E.ON too.

From 19/05/2007 > 06/05/2008 I used 5092 kWh of electric and 1012 units (11,500 kWh) of gas and my total annual cost was £928.84 paying bills by CC when due (no DD discount).

Your annual bill does seem quite high, maybe it's the 33p+ per day standing charge that bumps the cost up.

I'm on the 'E.ON Energy Plan' though uswitch reckons I can save £170 p/a by moving to "Click Energy 5 Dual Fuel from British Gas"
