He's in Debt, Im not, But want a House??

Hiya Everyone

Im new to the forum, although ive being using Mr.Lewis' site for quite a while now haha...

Seeing as we are all here to discuss opinions and help one another, im wondering what you think of my situation.

ive been with my boyfriend for 8yrs (coming up to 8 1/2) im 23 he's 28 and im desparate for our own place, and so is he, only he has an £8000 loan to pay off...

He says he wants to get rid of that first before he would commit to buying a house as it woud leave him with very very little money (after mortgage, bills, food, car etc)

But im so keen to buy i wondered if i should start to pay the mortgage myself, and get him to support the bills, food etc?

or am i being selfish and should i wait till he has got rid of his loan?

Im saving as much of my spare cash to get a deposit together (as such he wont be saving anything yet as all goes towards the loan)

So Id be making a big contribution towards a deposit (if not all of it) and then id me paying the mortage...

oh what to do, what to do...????:confused::confused:

Sounds like he wants his cake (the house) and to eat it (not pay the mortgage).
  • aww no not at all, i havent mentioned that i was even thinking of doing it, it was just so we could start to settle, sooner rather than later, i mean i dont want to be living at home for much longer but it just the stupid loan thats getting in the way, without that we'd be splitting it all 50/50 no hesitations...

Do you have a deposit saved and can your salary support a mortgage?

What do you both earn (before tax), and what are the prices of the houses you are thinking of buying?

Has he made every payment on his loan? (i.e. if he's missed some, does he have a bad credit rating??)
Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)

Why not rent for a year? Then you get your own place, chance to pay off his loan and build your deposit and prices will, in all probability, be cheaper, so you'll get something better.
