Question re Egg Card

I've had an Egg card for years which I use to make a regular charity donation in Zimbabwe. However, last month it was used fraudulently so I called Egg to investigate. They immediately cancelled the card I have and said they would reissue a new card under a new number. They were also going to investigate and get back to me within 10 days.

That was about 3 weeks ago and I've never heard anything from them.

However, they did send out the new card with details of how to activate the card. I haven't done that yet, reason being I'm trying to get rid of my credit cards and don't really want it - if I activate it the temptation will be there to use it now and again.

When I log in online I go into my old card and it has been zero balanced.

Presumably my balance is transferred to the new card? But if I don't activate it how do I know that? And if I haven't activated it, how will they take payment as the direct debit is on the old card.

I suppose my only option is to activate it but then cut it up!

I'm sure they will transfer the DD to your new card and it will appear online once you have activated it.

If you can't resist temptation then cutting it up should do the trick.

You will not be responsible for any fraudulent use though.

Smile :), it makes people wonder what you have been up to.
  • my wallet was pick-pocketed when i visited barcelona early last year.
i cancelled all cards and was re-issued with new ones.
    one year passes.
egg contact me, 3 small payments have hit my account, on my new egg card number, all from spain, and further investigation, looks like toll roads in and around barcelona.
must have been using my old card ?!
egg immediately cancelled the number, and agreed to delete all history from my account. after all, how did an old account number cause debits on my new account number? because there was a connection in the system, the only possibility, though the egg people couldn't 100% confirm. anyway, wiping my old number history resolved.
the new card was issued very quickly (1 or 2 days later, so + pts to egg for this quick turnaround).
when i activated the new card, it started with a balance reflecting the old card balance (a figure including these 3 barcelona payments.)
egg then applied a credit to my account to reverse these payments.
also, the DD from my current account to pay egg was updated with my new egg card number automatically, didn't need to do anything about this.
i would imagine that if you login to egg, and activate your new card, you would see the balance from your old card, and correcting credits to reverse the fraudulent payments.
you could also 'phone egg, who would be able to confirm your card balance, and whether they have passed correcting entries.
    regards
