Index-linked National Savings Certificates

Options
Hello, I was thinking of investing in Index-linked National Savings Certificates. The only reason, is that I recieve working/families tax credits. So any interest earned elsewhere is deducted from my credits. Can anyone offer their opinion on this. Can anyone tell me what the current rate is for these certificates including the inflation part.I cannot seem to get onto the NS and I website,I just get a blank screen. Many thanks for any info and advice.Cheers

the website doesnt seem to be working you are right - from recollection they are paying out 0.25% over RPI over a three year period - i think there is also a 5 year index linked certificate - you can usually find the details in money sections of newspapers - have you thought about ISA's?

From memory I think it is RPI + 0.25% and RPI is at 4.2% currently
Hope for the best.....Plan for the worst!

The website seems to OK again - the rates for the 16th issue are RPI+0.25% for 3 years and RPI+0.35% for 5 years.

Dear Whu,Tradetime and h5djr, many thanks for the replies.I already have my Isa for this year.We have 30k (15k each ) to invest, tax credits, are only affected by what you earn and what interest your money earns.I have been on the tax credit calculator, and would lose approx £1500 over 3 years, investing the money in an ordinary account. So I think the savings certificates would be worthwhile. Thanks once again

note that the of the 3 and 5 year certificates have gone up since yesterday- the 3 year one is 0.7% above RPI averaged over the three year period

Thanks - have been agonising over whether to go for the 0.35% issue, after having re-invested a maturing certificate into it already.
I certainly will do the 0.7% one - the 0.35% one was not out for long. Maybe take-up was very slow, compared to the previous 1.35% rate - that issue lasted almost a year IIRC.
