Is extended Dell warranty worth it?

Bought a laptop last year, it was about £800, and I've had three phone calls now from Dell asking if I want to extend the warranty at a cost of £93.
It is worldwide cover, so will be covered in Oz.
But is it worth it?
Must admit, I dont usually bother with warranties but I'll be using the laptop for work for the first few months until my proper PC arrives.....
Any comments gratefully accepted

Generally I would say that extended warranties are not worth the money. But seeing as you are moving abroad and you say this will cover you. It may well be worth considering. I would double check the terms though, just to make sure that you'll get full cover in Australia. How many surrealists does it take to change a lightbulb?

Components in laptops are expensive to replace.. £93 is probably a good price for peace of mind, should anything go wrong. I had the 3 year warranty and on the last week of it, they happily replaced my HDD and CD-RW within a few days.
Dells pretty big in Australia so I'm sure you'll be well covered.Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication - Leonardo Da Vinci0 -
Nearly all breakdowns (of anything) are caused by manufacturing defects or old age. Extended warranties neatly cover the period in between when things are least likely to go wrong and are almost never worth the money.
I declined extended warranty on my Dell desktops for the above reasons and because I could deal with anything that went wrong myself.
Having said that, in this case it might be worth it for the peace of mind, and because laptops are more difficult to repair.0 -
Thanks, might give them a ring then and find out exactly what it covers for and how long0

On my Dell PC I had a pair of 120 GB drives in RAID-1 configuration. The boot sector "disappeared", and after much talking to the remotely-situated techies I was told that the drives needed to be replaced under the extended warranty. A pair of hard disks got delivered, and the engineer turned up and fitted them -- and we found that I'd been sent a pair of 400 GB disks! I asked to hang onto the original disks to see if I could get any of the data off* -- they have never been collected!
