Nurse Uniform (not wat ur thinking) !

Hi

My Wife is about to start her nursing degree and has bought her uniform, except for the shoes, is there any student nurses in the Manchester area who can direct her to a decent shop to buy a pair?

The shop that sold her the uniform had some but she thought they were too old ladyish (typical Woman).

Thanks

  • I thought you could wear any decent shoes or black trainers as long as they are comfortable. Many students in the royal all have normal black shoes or black trainers for them hectic days.
    Good luck. :T

Tell her to go for comfort over looks. When I started my training, I bought as fashionable pair as I could get away with........After one week on the wards, I threw them away and replaced them with a pair of comfortable 'old lady's' shoes.

They have to be full black shoe and rubber (no squeeeeek) sole, she isn't allowed dm's or trainers according to the bumf she has been sent by university.

My sister's a midwife (and a very trendy one at that) and she swears by Marks and Spencers 'Footgloves' for wearing on the wards.

Like Pink says, she needs to choose comfort over fashion........she won't be the only one either and will probably look more out of place on the wards wearing trendy(ish) shoes. She's not gonna be happy on a 12 hour shift if her shoes look great but her feet hurt like hell.
Just run, run and keep on running!

    Smag,

As there is a duplicate thread running on the Student board, I'll move this one over there so that they can be merged.

I am a nurse and the best thing to do is put on a pair of pop socks and go and try them. I've had a variety of shoes over the years. Try something that is fairly light, doesn't come up the front of the foot too high and has lots of cushioning and bounce in the sole. A lot of nurses wear eccos but they come up quite expensive. My current ones are clarkes and I love them had them for over a year. Jut make sure they look ok with a dress. If youve got trousers and a tunic you could try DMs they last for years but a bit on the heavy side.
Every nurse is different so it really is down to personal choice. Hope she enjoys her training. I love my job good luck ..to her in her studies.
  • I personally have to confess that I stretch the uniform policy to its absolute limits, its a wonder I get away with it actually! I think they have just got used to me after all these years! Lol..I have a pair of VERY goth, chunky soled 'New Rock' shoes, which are really comfortable but probably not allowed by wards with very strict Sisters! Failing that Doc Martins are comfy. But to be honest, any black shoes that cover all your foot and have sensible heels will be ok. :)

If wife has big feet Evans have some comfy black shoes. thinking about it they do sizes from around 4 -10.
  • i started my training in march and all i can do is agree that you need comfy shoes, hush puppies are good- no one will be looking at your feet.
