AMEX cash withdrawals - Platinum Card

Hi Folks...has anyone with an AMEX platinum "cashback" card used it to withdraw cash?

I tried to use it an an ATM for an emergency and it was declined. I called Customer Services and they said that card cannot be used to withdraw cash anywhere, despite what it says in the advertising jargon on the Amex site.

Can anyone clarify whether this card can be used to obtain cash withdrawals? I possibly misunderstood the Customer Services operator because I found it hard t understand her foreign accent!

Thanks

Never ever use any card that is not a cash card or debit card to withdraw cash unless it is an absolute emergency. It will cost you loads of money in fees and interest.

Consider yourself lucky that AMEX declined your cash withdrawal.

You may need to activate that feature on your card. It will cost you a lot in cash interest and fees, although I appreciate it can be useful in a dire emergency.

AMEX cards should work in all LINK machines in the UK, as AMEX is a link member.
