My statement yesterday showed I was going to be charged £0.41 in instant overdraft interest. The lady I spoke with in the Chairman's Office was under the impression that this problem had been resolved, but obviously not. I am advised I won't be charged, but let's just wait and see.

They didn't manage to sort my original unwarranted interest complaint out properly, it was still debited and I had to ask again for a refund.

I was told I would receive £10 in compensation after my second call. That was on 15 August and I'm still waiting after two further calls.

My October statement showed the 4th erroneous overdraft charge this year.

I had used the Advance Overdraft facility 3 times during that period but put the account into credit by the end of business on each occasion and therefore ought not to have been charged. This system error was already known at the beginning of the year, see post #11.

The lady at Telephone Banking seemed not to understand how Abbey's overdraft charges are applied and quite frankly, gave me a whole lot of nonsense.

For some time now, everything has been ok - no erroneous charges for any of the family - in fact not since I spoke to the Daily Mail and they printed an article about this.

However, statement arrived on Friday, and lo and behold I am going to be charged 86p in advance overdraft interest charges. I have checked both my paper and on-line statements and cannot see that any time, even for 1 minute have I been overdrawn.

I will be contacting the Chairman's office at 9am this morning. I cannot be bothered to speak to India. I really thought this 'systems error' had been resolved, but obviously not.

This is now the 5th time I am being charged advance overdraft interest. Again, I was overdrawn during the day but back in the black at end of day. There should not have been a charge, see post #1.

However, the advisor at the complaints department came up with a new theory: that the value date of debit card payments isn't the date shown on the statement but the day the payment was made.

If that was the case, the advance overdraft interest should have been 22p, not 10p. So, in any case the interest figure is not right. She had no idea how interest is calculated and was not able nor willing to take this any further.

Can anyone answer the questions I posted here : Abbey advance overdraft interest calculation
