So there I was, in a store that was closing down, wire basket full when my MSE brain took over.
Do I really need 4 lovely red side plates (50p each) when I've decluttered and given dishes away recently? ...NO!
Do I really need any more candles (half price) when I've got plenty? ... NO!
Do I really need another cutlery drainer when I've already got one (even though this one appeals to me more?) ... NO!
Do really I need any more notebooks for writing things down so that I don't forget (then I forget to write things down anyway)? ... NO!
Do I really need more art stuff for DGS? (£2 for a lot of paints, crayons and felt tips. ...NO!
but I bought some anyhow.....!
I always find it easier to spend on my grandchildren than myself.
Maybe we should put back most of the stuff that we think are bargains. What have you put back recently?

I'm with you.To be honest I've been questioning myself a lot lately and it is getting a lot easier to put things back on the shelves after thinking I just have to have it.
I'm finding a lot of the stuff I've bought I realy don't need and have progressed from taking it back to not buying it.0 -
I do this all the time especially in the supermarket.:o
I get almost to the checkout then think do i really need all this and then put loads back. My sister thinks it's hilarious she even asks me now what are you going to put back:rolleyes:0 -
We have the discussion regularly when DH wants to go to town or something. His Mum was laughing the other day when he said let's go to town and I went through all of the why? what do you need? Do you need or want it etc questions and he decided in the end not to go!
I find it much easier to avoid town completely.
The kids were a nightmare for going on at me to get stuff so we give them pocket money. Now when they want something I say fine, have you got enough money for it? I try and consider stuf before I even get it in the baslet, this normally works for me.
However I think my father in law needs to learn to do this. He's always on the hunt for bargain but he wastes so much money purchasing stuff he just doesn't need but because it was reduced he thinks he's shopping economically. he bought two clocks from the supermarket the other day because they were reduced to £2 from £5. then he's at our door asking if we want them! He's the worlds worst at lecturing on saving money but his false economy over the year must run into the hundreds of pounds.I have a gift for enraging people, but if I ever bore you it'll be with a knifeLouise Brooks

I go virtual shopping to cheer myself up all the time! Go on Topshop or Asos website, put loads of lovely clothes and shoes into my basket and the close the window before the paying bit. Not the same but almost.
Went to Wynsors to get DS2 a new pair of school shoes (didnt want to spend a great deal as school is almost out. was going to get a pair for £3.95 (not much I know) but seen a better looking trainer type for £2 (£5.95)more so got those. My DD then seen a little basket bag and said mammy can I have that I said no pt it back you have one in the house (just not as pink and pretty but surely i pretty it up?) she then wanted a little purse bag I said put it back you have a blue one in the house she wanted the gold one:o - saved not buying £1.95 + £2.95 spent only £5.95 on J's shoes.
WE came out of Wynsors and DD begged me to take her in McDonalds  no i said, please mammy, mammy please, no we'll go home have a cup of tea and a biscuit, chocolate biscuit mam, yes chocolate sweetheart. Saved around £3.00 there.
So not quite the same but almost so save almost £8 today.:DGrocery Challenge. £400. - £35.22 + £19.80 + £109.01 = £164.03
Other spends (Clothes Luxuries etc)£11.97 + £1.19 + £7.36 + £69.00 + £38.50 + £5.50 + £23.00 +£2.00 = £158.52:shocked::sad:0 -
This works for me, especially in the big stores that sell all sorts....
- buck anything and everything that I want on impulse into the trolley, then just before I go to pay I take a really good look through the contents and ask myself all of the questions you guys have posted above - and end up taking a lot out again!!!:rotfl: It takes me a bit more time but saves me the dosh. Going through the motions seems to give the oh-want satisfaction without the oh-no spend!
Give it a go sometime.Have to be a bit discrete about unloading stuff though as it p**s the assistants off if they see me doing it!
I don't do it with frozen stuff though.0
