My loan company recently sent me a letter saying that they had closed my account, cancelled my DD and thanks for my custom!! - Great but strange I thought, as I still had a good 2.8k left to repay.

Thinking that they had just given up on me making my miniscule payments every month, i was very pleased!!

However I then noticed that they had credited my account with just over a grand!

I know I should have kept the money and given it back, but I didn't and spent it on overdue rent!!!

3 months later, they are now asking for a cheque for the full amount the money they "made in error".

They have also sent me a letter (which is clearly computer generated) saying that they are going to sell my debt, unless I make a few payments and one large final payment in july of 1.3k, and that my account has been reinstated (becuase I haven't made a payment since I got the letter saying the account was cancelled)

WHAT DO I DO - I DON'T HAVE THE MONEY TO REPAY.. and Yes I am feeling stupid now for spending it!!!! ahh help!!!!!!!!!!!

Have you tried calling them and seeing if you can come to some arrangement to pay back the outstanding debt?

You knew it was a mistake, you knew the £1000 wasn't yours yet you never got in touch to confirm things?
This is serious enough for them to report it to the police as fraud!

    I hope you have a plan B!

Why bother posting this just to kick someone when they are down? Do you get some sort of kick out of it?

Jones is not kicking anyone when they are down he is offering his advice and opnion. As he actually works for a financial institution he is only warning OP of the possible consequences.
Whilst his advice is short it is to the point. It might not be want OP wants to hear but it is a fair comment.;)

What advice exactly is offered? have a plan B is not really advice.

I'm fairly sure the OP knows this already and there is a lot to be said for tone of a post!

What I am saying is quite clear - the OP knew that they had a loan o/s suddenly written off and they did not query it,
a sum of money appeared in their account and they did not question it,
they spent the money -now the lender wants it back.

OP took a chance that they could get away with this - its called stealing in my book and whether pborojon and collywollys condone that - I do not.
I may be an !!!!!! to some on here but I'm an honest !!!!!!.

Where does it say I condone it? She clearly knows what she has done is wrong and is panicking so why did you feel the need to reiterate it to her in a condescending manner. You're not the judge and jury are you?!

Just don't see the point in posting purposely to put the boot in.

As you say, many of these letters will be computer generated. If you call them and speak to somebody I'm sure some sort of arrangement can be made, I'd suggest slightly higher monthly repayments to repay the amount credited in error and the missed repayments. I'm sure as they made an error too they will understand.
