help need to raise cash

Hi
I'm in a bit if a sticky situation. I'm a first year student with a Natwest student account which i am up to my limit on the overdraft and i need to raise £500 quicky.
I applied for a halifax student account but was refused due to my credit score. I am now thinking of applying for an abbey student account to get the interest free overdraft as it seems like it's the only one where you can have multiple accounts but i don't want ot be refused as it will show on my credit file. Which by the way i think is okay as i rent a flat and pay all my bills on time and have no other debts (appart from student loan).
Any other ideas how to raise the money?
Thanks
Gray

Within the next few weeks. I thought about a job but i am too busy for the next two weeks then i am moving to a different city. Pawning stuff is something i've thought about but would do as a last resort.0

Sell stuff either on Amazon or eBay or a car boot sale. You probably wouldn't get the total you needed but it'd help you along the way to reaching £500. Other than that there isn't much choice except to get a job as soon as you can.0

Is the money for something essential that you need for basic living? If so then you may be able to apply for a hardship grant/loan at your uni. If you can prove you are in a difficult financial situation, they may be able to lend you the money.Don't pay off your student loan quicker than you have to.0

No unfortunatly not, besides my uni doesn't have hardship grants.0

Rang them up today and spoke to a customer call center lady and she said i cannot extend my overdraft. Not sure if i could do at a branch though.0

I think i will before i apply for another account. I really don't want to go down the route of credit cards or loans as i can't garrentee i can pay the money back right away. Has any one had any experience of holding two student accounts at the same time? I know people have said thay have in the past but i think it's changed now.0

Hi,
If you are quite desperate to raise cash, I'd suggest buying something like this on ebay
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/1000-GLOW-STICKS-GLOWSTICKS-100-FREE-GLOW-BALLS_W0QQitem

1000 glow sticks for £35
let's say you sell them at 4 for a £1
you could make £250 if you sell them all.
Glowsticks are popular amongst the students! but flogging a thousand may be too much, try and find maybe 500 of them, then build from that!
hope it helps, best of luck0 -
Why would anyone pay £1 for four glowsticks when you can go into a pound shop, or any other shop that sells them and get a whole box for that price?0

Good point! :rotfl:
there goes that money making plan down the pan.0
