You don't sound like a young mum to me, you sound like a very wise one. You are sorting this now and not letting things get out of hand. Your precious little girl is very lucky!

good luck with your CAB appointment .. also ask them about charities that maybe help you with your fuel arrears .. im also a single parent with 2 girls 3 & 5yrs and as some other post say they wont know wether an item cost 1-50 out a charity shop or ebay or £30 from argos as i have found to my cost ...bought them presents at christmas as i felt guilty cause their friends got them and they hardly look at them

Im also in debt with my water and my phone bill, I just cannot afford to pay all these debts anymore. It makes me feel so sick, I cant even afford to get my daughter anything fancy for her birthday which is one things that really gets to me.

    Hi Sally

I'm sure the CAB will explain more about different funds available when you go and see them but some water companies have a grant to go towards utility debts.

The link for the Severn Trent fund is here: http://www.sttf.org.uk/
Just click on the 'Application Form' logo to print off a form. (I don't know whereabouts you live so you may need to contant your own water company and find out if they offer anything similar.)

As for your daughter - she'll just be happy to have a mother's love rather than any expensive gifts. Please don't let these debts get on top of you and make you ill again.

    Best wishes,

    Jo. xx

    Hiya

I am also a single mum, albeit a tad older!

My boys are old enough to understand that mum can't buy the same as their friends parents and actually help me source bargain priced clothes on ebay or in the sales. It's amazing how cheap you can find the big brand names which would cost you £50+ in the shops and I rarely pay more than a couple of quid for a brand name tracksuit.

Same as when we go on holiday (my parents own a static caravan on a site so we borrow it for a week or so at no cost at all!), we basically stay around teh swimming pool (if it's nice) all day drinking free water from the bar, so so different to the holidays they experienced when their dad was living with us and spending £30 or more in the entertainments bar every night.

As for the utilities, prepayment meters are not all bad, yes the standing charge can be slightly more expensive but you also have the bonus of not receiving a bill to stress about....electric ones even make you more energy conscious as you can see what uses more electricity (the red light starts blinking like crazy) and you can turn things off to save pennies (and supposedly the enviroment).

Keep strong, the single parent job is not an easy one (despite what others say) and if you ever need to talk to an older but probably not wiser head, drop me a pm.
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.
