Have I been silly.
Ive moved into a new house, seen the letters from 'Scottish Gas' saying I need to phone them... and now Ive given my details etc.
The house only has elec, no gas.
And the woman says it will be approx £30 a month!!! How can this be possible? Im certain my mate says he only pays about £15 and his flat is bigger with heating.
How much should I be paying? Theres me and my girlfriend in a small 1 bedroom semi.

No-one knows what your usage will be till you start making use of the electricity and get some usage figures.
£15 does sound quite low (but also quite possible if the flat is unoccupied most of the day, etc).
They will adjust your monthly payment if it turns out to be too much, and once you get some idea of your usage you can input it into the comparison sites, and if another supplier comes out cheaper switch to them.0 -
Kriss boy
Why do you think you are silly?
Because you gave your name to the gas people?
I am sure if the amount is wrong they will credit you or charge you more .........Breast Cancer Now 100 miles October 2022 100 / 100miles

As you have just moved in, they are probably assuming that your usage will be similar to the previous occupier. However £360 per annum for gas is very reasonable! Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0

The UK average is over £1,000 a year - say £85 a month. That includes those with gas which is much cheaper than electricity for heating and hot water.
You will be lower for the heating element as you have a small property, but your use of electricity for hot water, other appliances and lighting will be much as any other property.
If your bills are less than £60 a month you will have done well.0 -
Have I tied myself into a contact?
Surely I should have shopped around....
Me and my girlfriend work 9 till 5, and most week nights we out as well, shes at the gym, im playing pool, having tea at parents houses, going to the pub etc!!
I suppose we will wait and see!!0 -
So using the an electric heater.... and electiricity to heat the hot water cylinder is a lot more expensive?
We totally refurbed the house but decided to leave the heating till after summer because the house is warm enough for us at the moment and its still not summer yet.0 -

you are in a house, not a flat,so your mate will only be paying a small amount because of the heat generated from the other flats will keep his costs down (or at least thats the way it works at my sisters!!)
I reckon £30 is a smashing amount to pay per month! I get through that much in two weeks!LOLGetting debt free...0 -

No, you have simply taken over the supply.

It's difficult to shop around until you know what your actual consumption is. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0
